This week’s readings are an extension of last week’s focus on the sociology of mental health. Here are some questions to guide your viewing and reading:

• Many of you have expressed an interest in autism, specifically Asperger’s. Given what you learned about the history of defining mental health conditions, what does the history of the autism spectrum mean? What does it mean when, a valid question is, “are you on it?” Consider how this might relate to, for example, what we learned about ADHD in week 9.
• The treatment of our military and adult prison population are ever present points of discussion. What are the major mental health issue(s) at hand for these respective populations? What is the U.S. government, and any other responsible governmental, social or political agencies doing (or not doing) to address the issue(s)? What needs to be done to create an accessible, equitable mental health system?
