1. You must use at least three academic sources in your paper. Just typing the name of the work into Google does not count.
2. One of your sources must be a Credo Reference source (You can find Credo Reference on the home page of NCMC library). If you can’t find the name of the work in Credo Reference, you should at least be able to find the artist.
3. One of your sources must be a book. The NCMC library has several books that would be helpful, but you may also find it very helpful to order a book from Towers or Mobius. Remember that you’ll want to choose your book sources early as it may take a while to arrive.
4. You may use your textbook as a source, but it does not count as one of the three required sources.
5. If you have questions about whether or not a source will work, please ask me.
Your paper should be a three-page *THESIS-DRIVEN* paper that answers the following questions:
*”Thesis-driven” means that you should be making some sort of claim about the piece of art you’ve chosen to write about. In many ways, “thesis-driven” also means that you’re making an argument. You’re trying to convince your audience to see the artwork the same way you see it by presenting evidence to support your thesis. Remember a thesis belongs at the end of your introduction – usually the last line of your first paragraph.
Some formatting guidelines:
1. Your paper should be double-spaced, in Times New Roman 12 point font.
2. Use 1” margins.
3. Use MLA style for citations and your works cited page.
4. Remember that any time you use someone else’s words or ideas in your paper, you must give him or her credit. In MLA style, you give the author credit by using a parenthetical or in-text citation. Don’t forget to denote an author’s original language with quotation marks.
5. You should have a works cited page at the end of your paper (it doesn’t count for the three-page expectation). Please use full citations, not just URLs. You will probably have to use outside resources to complete this part of the assignment. (The ARC can be very helpful here. Or you can use some online resources – the OWL at Purdue is very helpful as well).
Lastly, submit your paper to turnitin.com in order to check for plagiarism.
