The Essay Quiz is designed to test your understanding of recent Australian macroeconomic developments and policy issues. The setup is basically the same as that of the online quizzes.

It will be available between 9am Thursday 3rd of October and 5pm Monday 7th of October.
Once you activate the quiz, you’ll have three hours. The program will randomly select one question, which you should answer in 500 words.
You must click both “save” and “finish”.
In preparation for this assessment, you should read the following materials by various authors from the Australian Treasury and the Reserve Bank of Australia. You should take note of important points, facts and figures. These five readings are available on the vUWS website for this subject.

“A History of Public Debt in Australia”. By Katarina Di Marco, Mitchell Pirie and Wilson Au-Yeung (2011).
“The Australian Economy and the Global Downturn – Part 1: Reasons for Resilience.” By Tony MacDonald and Steve Morling (2011).
“Statement on Monetary Policy: August 2013.” The Reserve Bank of Australia.
“Pocket Tax Guide 2013.” The Australian Treasury.
“Australian Exports: Global Demand and High Exchange Rate. By Tim Atkin and Ellis Connolly (2013).

The questions will be fairly general ones about these readings. Your mark will be based on:

Your demonstrated understanding of issues.
Your ability to apply concepts taught in the course.
The quality of your writing (including overall clarity, as well as grammar, expression, and punctuation).
The extent of your research, as indicated by citations of the provided readings – you do not need a bibliography list, just put the author’s name and appropriate page number in parentheses after the relevant point, e..g., (MacDonald/Morling, 24), (Di Marco, et al. 6).
