I have statistical results and I want to start the discussion with you. The most important thing is to use formal language that is highly objective and academic. All refernces should be followed with page numbers (not only aouther name and year). The main points to be discussed as possible reasons for using informal language in academic writing should be:
1. transfer (interference) of L1 norms.
2. interlanguage of learners.
3. literal translation of words from L1 into L2, when the learner’s L2 vocabulary knowledge is shallow or limited.
Other important points to be mentioned are:
1. EFL vocabulary is not as rich as ESL vocabulary.
2. ESL learners have better knowlege of English academic genre and the formal register it requires.
i have collected some useful information from a nu,ber of references. I will upload them with my results file and some sections from my thesis. I hope you find all you need therein. I need to know if anything is not clear or needs clarification.
