Using text book “Organization Development & Change,” by Cummings & Worley; to answer the following:
This week I want to highlight the concept of organizational culture. Culture shapes how we interpret events and also guides what is valuable within organizations to its members. Cultures vary in strength (i.e., how much the culture guides the values and behaviors of its members) and vary in what they consider to be fundamental assumptions, values, norms and artifacts. Overall, it is critical that the culture is consistent with the strategic plan and structure of any organization. If a change effort creates a new structure that relies heavily on teamwork, but your organizational culture promotes working alone and competition, there may be problems with implementing your new strategy.
In that vein, I’d like you to discuss the culture of an organization that you work for or have worked for in the past. Using Figure 20.3, describe the culture. Then, describe whether or not you think the culture is supportive of the organization’s current strategy. Why or why not?
