Write an essay that includes a 250+ word analysis of “HEPATITIS F” through the lens of one of those critical approaches. Be sure to clearly identify what approach you’re using. Choose ONE of the Critical Approaches to literature identified in Chapter 9 of the book titled, “short guide in writing about literature”.

As you have done the analysis on “in about a paragraph, the title of the story (using the questions on page 173 of our Short Guide book to guide you) and, in another paragraph, the theme of the story (using the questions on page 176 of our Short Guide to guide you). Then write another paragraph that demonstrates and analyzes how the title and the theme intersect” that you done in the Order: #2548073, you will now need to analyze other people’s analysis regarding the title and the theme of the article. You need to make 3 different essays ( each essay comment 1 people’s analysis) which consist of 250+ words. On the essay, you need to comment other people analysis regarding the issues. In other word, you are not supposed to make an analysis regarding the issues, but instead, you need to comment other people’s analysis. I will post the people’s analysis below.
Analysis 1 – Analysis by Timoty:
The title, Hepatitis F, gives the reader a foreshadowing of the tone of the story. Hepatitis is defined as an inflammation of the liver, which can cause uneasiness and discomfort. With a unique title, a reader is drawn in through curiosity since Hepatitis F is not a real virus. The F is a play on words, and can only be understood once the story is read. But the reader gets an idea that what they’re about to read isn’t a bright, joyous story. But rather, it will be something darker.
The theme of the story is foolishness. The tattoo store is being sued for a misspelling of a tattoo, and that causes stress for proof reader since he was responsible for making sure that the stencil for the tattoo was accurate. His excuse for his mistake was that he had a long night before, dealing with girls who got tattoos in the spur of the moment. Not only is the proof reader suffering from his foolishness, but the person who got the tattoo is also suffering. He’s initially suing because the fault caused him to get eighteen laser surgeries to remove the tattoo, which cannot be a pleasant experience. This suffering could’ve have been avoided though if the person made sure that their request was accurate, and they themselves proof read. Tattoos are made to be permanent, and the carelessness that all the participants in this case caused unnecessary suffering.
Hepatitis F is a great title that works hand in hand with the theme, foolishness, since there is no actual virus that begins with “F” and instead the letter refers to the author’s overlying theme. Hepatitis, on average, is not a permanent illness. Tattoos can be removed and so are not permanent either. But both have the potential to be, depending on the person and on the type of virus – whether it’s A, B, or C. The title and theme are symmetrical to each other, keeping a consistent feel throughout the story.

Analysis 2 – analysis by Michael neiman
Title
The title suggests that the story is about tattoos and the biker lifestyle. Hepatitis is a potential consequence of both. Well, that is one stereotype of people who get tattoos and ride motorcycles anyway. When a tattoo artist is careless about his or her job and a client is careless about his or her tattoo artist, infectious diseases like hepatitis like to spread. Hepatitis is why I never wanted to get a tattoo when I was young enough to want to get a tattoo. The title: “Hepatitis F” gives us the setting of the story and perhaps something about the theme, but we’ll get into that later.
Theme
The theme is about underachievement. Joey Barstow, the defendant in the case and the subject of the story, is an underachiever. Joey Barstow has a simple job, and he does it…poorly. His training in proofreading at the illustrious Modern Fumigator, and his skills at placing the “top arrow” in the up position on an x-ray were sadly not enough to carry him through life. Twenty five years later, this proofreader has little proof that he can read. He is an underachiever even in his own defense, the cornerstone being: “I was under pressure”. I seriously doubt he knows the meaning of the word pressure, or even the spelling.
Intersection
The theme and title intersect when we look at the title as a proofreading error, and a play on the theme. The assumption here is that the F in “Hepatitis F” was meant to be a “Hepatitis B” or “Hepatitis C”. Our underachieving, proofreading defendant could very likely make such a mistake. Certainly he could if he was “under pressure”. “Hepatitis F” seems an apt title for an inept tattoo proofreader’s story of failure.
Analysis 3 – analysis by hanna Johnson
Upon first reading the title, “Hepatitis F”, I thought the story would be about something medical related, but was I fooled. Then, after reading the story, I didn’t think the title was really that informative about the story. Since it wasn’t informative, I had to think for a minute about how this weird title had anything to do with what I read. I realized there isn’t such thing as a formal Hepatitis F. The “F” in the title is supposed to be a misspelling and is meant to be funny to the reader. Only someone who read the story would find the title amusing. If they were to name it “A”, “B” or “C” instead of “F”, the title would have a whole other meaning and wouldn’t have the same relation to the story. I also know you are able to contract Hepatitis from being tattooed, so after reading the story, it made sense to me why it was titled that way, but it doesn’t give away what the story is about. Before reading the story, the title helped me form a theme about what I thought it would be about, but after reading the story, it gave me a more concrete idea about the theme. Hepatitis is related to tattooing since it can be contracted by being tattooed and “F” is a misspelling, so the theme has to do with tattoos and a misspelling. It’s an abstract title, yet ends up telling the reader exactly what the story is about.
The theme of the story, “Hepatitis F”, is based on the fact a man’s tattoo was accidently misspelled. There is also a bit of humor put into the story by the defendant which shows he finds the incident a bit comical. By the end of the story, we know they tried everything to fix it for the man, and that it was partially the man’s fault, so there is a reason the defendant thinks its funny. The whole story is written informally, which just adds to the comedy of the piece. I think the meaning of the story is embodied in the story for the most part, though a short, but helpful background is given by the quote from The Times. The story is short, sweet and to the point and gets across the comedic theme very quickly by using phrases like “the bridesmaids, if that’s what you’d call them” and also the informal tone. The point of the story is to address something serious in a humorous way. This topic shouldn’t be taken lightly, yet the defendant in the story does a good job of defending himself, yet making the whole situation a little less serious.
The theme of “Hepatitis F” relates to the title in an abstract way. There are many parallels between the story and the title. For axample, hepatitis is a serious thing, as well as getting a tattoo misspelled on your body. However, “Hepatitis F” is a misspelling since there is no such thing, which directly relates to the misspelling of the tattoo. The title can also be taken as an amusing or humorous title since it was “misspelled”. The humorous title goes with the humorous tone of the story. Also, Hepatitis is a disease with the potential of being contracted when being tattooed, we can pick up that the title is hinting at the topic of tattooing without reading it. The “F” is hinting at the misspelling which spurred the whole story. So if you put the two together, tattooing and misspelling, or misspelling and tattooing, we are actually told exactly what the theme of the story is. Of course if it doesn’t happen to you, the fact that a tattoo was misspelled on someone’s body is really funny, so not only does the title hold the topic of the story, but also shows it’s a little humorous.
