Reflective essay.

Reflective essay: Additionally, I would like one brief, (1-2 page) informal essay that discusses
one topic that has been relevant to your development as a writer over this semester. Here are
some topics that you might consider writing about:
 Revising. How has your revising process in this class been similar or different to what
you have done outside this class–either in school or out? What have you learned about
the writing process as you’ve revised your work this semester?
 Feedback. What has it been like getting feedback to your writing? From me? From your
group? How has this feedback influenced you (or not) over this semester?
 Stuck points. Can you point to a particular time or a particular paper where you got stuck
or were dissatisfied with your writing process? What happened?
 Breakthroughs. Can you point to a particular time or a particular paper where you had
some insight that took the paper in a new direction or where you were struggling with
something and figured out what to do?
 Reading like a writer. How is reading like a writer been helpful to your development as a
writer? Use specific examples of when and how you used reading like a writer to write
one of your papers.
Choose one of the above topics and be specific. Don’t use vague generalities such as “Revising is
a good thing to do” or “My group gave me good ideas.” Boring! Use concrete details and
examples to discuss something real and specific and meaningful to you as a writer.
