The purpose of the essays is twofold: to provide a relatively thorough and detailed analysis of your topic (which will be some aspect of a particular philosopher’s theory of education) and then to engage in some critical argumentation of your own. As in the discussion exercises, you will be expected to take a position on the philosopher you are writing about: do you find their argument compelling? If so, provide a supporting argument of your own for the same conclusion. If not, provide a criticism or counterargument.
