Paper # 2 (6-7 pages): Issues Raised by “More Than Human”
In this essay of approximately 1750 words (6-7 pages plus an annotated bibliography), you will research an argument based on issues raised by Theodore Sturgeon’s novel “More Than Human.” There are a number of different approaches you can take. You may focus your paper on exploring thematic tensions/ contradictions in Sturgeon’s book. You can base your argument on a comparison of common ground topics (such as evolution, community) in “The Island of Doctor Moreau.” Or you may also draw on the short stories we have read in class to generate a discussion of conflicts raised by the ideas and characters in Sturgeon’s volume. The idea is to shape a conversation among voices that back up as well as question your claim about the nature of evolution, gestalt, etc.
Your secondary source material should be suitable for use in an academic argument: Please include at least two examples of critical commentary from books on critics and/or criticism (peer-reviewed) as well as primary sources that illuminate your topic.
