This is a debate group assessment and I am the second speaker for the affirmative.
The topic is: That media machines make us what we are.

The following is what you need to do as a second speaker
The second speaker will discuss the development of technology through history and how every technological development has impacted upon the construction of our identities. Through her analysis of social media, you will show that media machines have become part of our everyday life to the point which it is impossible to create or project any identity or image of ourselves without incorporating the machinery of media in some way. You will also discuss the blurred lines in contemporary media between the producer and the user of media in an attempt to create the self.

In order to have finish this 700 words, you MUST read the first speaker’s introduction carefully! You won’t get the idea of the topic without reading his speech because his speech explains the topic.
We are in ONE group so it is very important that you know what the first speaker had post as well as what the third speaker will cover.

a) “media machines”= any type of technology in the contemporary world which conveys ideas/ messages and content. Obviously the emphasis at the moment can be on social media technologies but it should include the fundamentals like print and speech etc. Some quotes from theorists here.
b) “make us” = informs or creates; reproduces and produces. Are crucial to the function of
c) “who we are” = our identity. What we mean. How we sound. What words we choose. What is and what isn’t appropriate. Etc. Like behavioural practices of things.
