This policy should be critiqued to meet standards of nursing practice, regulatory compliance, and potential risk management concerns. As a nurse leader, what areas would you strengthen, if any, and why? Or, if you think the policy is adequate as written, please discuss why.
You should provide a copy of the policy as an attachment to your thread. Your thread should contain a summary of the policy including a description of the policy, rationale, outcomes, as well as critique the policy to standards of nursing practice, regulatory compliance, and potential risk management concerns. In preparation for this assignment, consider reviewing political viewpoints and positions of a professional organization such as the American Nurses Association (ANA) or the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and the impact that the organization’s viewpoint may have on the development of the policy. Policies such as staffing/patient ratios, no lift policies, fall protocols, policies that support National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), or the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health care Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) are topics of interest, but you may choose other policies.
For each thread, you should support your assertions with at least 2 citations in current APA format. Each reply should cite at least 2 sources. Acceptable sources include the textbooks, Bible, peer-reviewed journals written within the past 5 years, current policies and political/position statements from organizations or agencies, and professional groups such as the American Nurses Association.
Criteria
Thread – All key components of the discussion board question are answered in a new thread: comprehensive discussion of the technology or information system; contribution to patient safety /quality of care, etc.; legal and ethical considerations; and role of nurse administrator.
Thread – Major points are supported by the following: textbook or articles (at least 2 scholarly citations less than 5 years old); and thoughtful analysis (considering assumptions, analyzing implications, and comparing/contrasting concepts based on the readings from the text).
Thread – Spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and current APA format.
Thread – Sufficient word count. Note that the greetings, salutations, and references of the thread and replies do not contribute to the overall word count.
