What lessons were learned by Police, Civil Defense, Municipal agencies and NCEMA from the disaster response to the Tropical Cyclone Gonu which struck UAE in 2007?
Research Aims:
This research aims to take stock of lessons that have emerged from Police, Civil Defense, Municipal agencies and NCEMA in the UAE to the Tropical Cyclone Gonu in order to ensure greater success of such disaster management in the future. The study will depend on interviews with responder leaders to go through lessons learned.
The hypothesis of this study is: Improvement of coordination and cooperation , implementation of Non-governmental aid and establishment of training, exercise, and lessons learned programs throughout the Federal, National and Local governments form the main lessons learned from the disaster management to the Tropical Cyclone Gonu in UAE organizations.
Problem Statement:
This report examines the lessons learned from Tropical Cyclone Gonu from several departments and agencies, lessons learned from Gonu in the UAE are not clear or shown in academic literatures, articles or books. Also, these lessons are not announced in media such as newspaper and not available information in websites. This could cause a limit other agencies to improve their disaster management training in UAE. Changing patterns of weather conditions globally, and therefore, subjected to natural distracters, which requires tremendous resources devoted to rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of such calamities. The aim of this research is to examine the Gonu Cyclone response, draw some lessons and apply such lesson to dealing with future disasters.
Methodelogy:
Interview and comparative case study with lessons learned from hurricane Katrina in U.S
after collecting data from the UAE , lessons will be compared with those published by U.S government
