From your analysis of relevant information for the selected company, you are required to write a report comprising an Executive Summary together with brief commentary following the headings and further requirements below:

1. Company and Industry Background

Syndicate members will be required to access relevant information relating to the nominated company and write a brief report providing background information on the company including the industry in which the business operates and a brief profile of the industry and relevant trends.

2. Methodology

Provide a brief statement outlining your research and analytical methodology, including sources of information. This will normally include details of the procedures and work that has been undertaken, e.g., the longitudinal nature of the analysis, the use of financial ratios, a detailed analysis of several financial statements and other information accessed via company’s website, the application of financial models, use of industry benchmarks etc.

3. Analysis

You are required to undertake a detailed analysis of the nominated company taking into consideration a variety of interested parties, including potential and existing investors (for example institutional investors and fund managers) and existing major creditors (including large banking institutions that have provided funds to the entity). You are required to analyse relevant financial statements, notes to the accounts, the Directors’ Report and other information releases for a five-year period ending on or after 30 June 2013. Your analysis should be based on key indicators relating to the assessment of financial performance and stability. Your analysis should also include:

 A detailed analysis of trading results, assets and liabilities, cash flows, current funding arrangements and relevant strategies employed in achieving corporate objectives; (Also, where possible, relevant information in the Directors’ reports of previous periods and analysts’ forecasts could also be analysed and evaluated),
 A detailed examination of accounting policy including any material changes to accounting policy over the time period.
 A comparison of the performance of your company over time and in relation to industry benchmarks (where available),
 A common-size statement analysis of the Income Statement and Balance Sheet.
 A general share-market evaluation using key market indicators, including changes in share price over the 5-year period adjusted for market movements (where possible) and an analysis of relevant events that may have impacted on these movements.
 An analysis of major events that have impacted on the company over the five year period, including changes to the management and board of directors and other exogenous events (e.g. economy and world events)

 An analysis of changes in firm value over the time period and the factors that may have impacted on firm value (use either the PE ratio or other acceptable measures for deriving a general estimate of firm value – note only an approximate value is required)
5. Specific Requirements (note that the technical aspects of many of these requirements will be covered during lectures)
Based on your analysis above, write a report on your findings covering:
1. The operating performance of the company,
2. The financial stability of the company in the short and long term, including the ability to meet short term and long term debt commitments,
3. The cash flow position of the company;
4. An analysis of share-market indicators and firm value issues
5. Other comments and information relevant to the assessment of the company’s current state of affairs,
6. The changes in accounting policy and related implications attributable to the introduction of new standards covering intangible assets.
7. An overall assessment and general outlook of the company for the next 12 to 24 months.

The following additional notes should also be noted in addressing the requirements for Section 2;
– It is important that the group’s report relates to the relevant indicators and other findings in the analysis section above.
– Include all calculations, together with photocopies of extracts of relevant financial statements and notes, in the appendices.
