Your final assignment will provide you with an opportunity to assess your own strengths as a leader, identify areas where you can continue to develop, and create a plan for growth. The title of your assignment should be My Personal Leadership Profile and Development Plan.
Your first step should be to go to the Northouse text and complete two self-assessments there, the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire form and the Authentic Leadership Self-Assessment Questionnaire. This will help you to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. You will find the questionnaires in the following locations:
• Northouse, 6th ed.: Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), page 213, and Authentic Leadership Self-Assessment Questionnaire, page 280. (See attachment)
Next, do some thinking. After you complete both questionnaires, take some time to analyze the results. Consider the following questions: What type of leader are you? How do you want your subordinates to see you? How do you want your superiors and colleagues to see you? What are your strengths? In what areas do you need to improve? How will you address these improvement needs? How will you know if you are a successful leader?
After you have completed the prior steps, start your writing. Your paper should fully discuss two components: an assessment of your own leadership profile,and a development plan to enable you to continue to grow as a leader.
Specifically, your leadership profile should include the following:
• A description of the attributes of an effective leader in multicultural work environments. This should pull together what you have learned in the course. Support your ideas with specific references back to your reading assignments.
• An example of a leader who exemplifies these attributes. This can be someone whom you personally know, or it can be a well-known person. You should relate the attributes of this person back to your description of the attributes of an effective leader.
• A review of your own results for the questionnaires, including an assessment of your own strengths and weaknesses. Please consider those results that show your ability to function in a multicultural work environment.
Specifically, your development plan should include the following:
• A clear set of actionable steps that you will take to address the leadership areas where you believe need improvement. What will you do? Who will you work with? Is taking this course one of your steps? What other actions will you take, and why?
• Ideas on how and why your success in improving your leadership abilities will position you for success in your career. How will your ability to function effectively in a multicultural work environment help you to progress in your career?
This final paper will be approximately 5 pages, plus a cover sheet and a reference list.
