Topic: Contemporary Issues in North American Archaeology: Kennewick Man, Repatriation,
and the Origins of First Americans.
Discuss the current debates within North American archaeology over the repatriation of
Native American skeletal/cultural remains and who the first human inhabitants of North
America were, particularly within the framework of the Kennewick Man case. Explain the
significance of NAPGRA for Native Americans, museums, and scientists. Include in your
discussion the genetic and archaeological evidence for who the first Americans were and
how they may have arrived to the Americas. Conclude by discussing how these different
issues are important for both the discipline of anthropology and American culture at large.
