Introduction:
The Introduction provides the background and justification for the experiment. It must demonstrate your understanding of previous research, and how the current experiment fits into these previous studies.
You need to provide the reader with an outline of what the experiment aimed to find out/achieve. The aim/s must be a thread that follows through the report from beginning to the end.
You must also develop an hypothesis for your experiment. A hypothesis is a simple statement of what you expect to occur, and which will be proven or disproven by the experimental results. The hypothesis is different to the aims. You must also state at the end of the report whether the aim/s have been achieved, and your hypothesis has been proven or not.
You must also note the scope of your report – what are the limitations of your report?
Method:
List all the equipment you used for the experiment. This list should also include the details of the subjects. State clearly how you performed each experiment, and this section must be written in PAST TENSE. The methods should be written so that a stranger could repeat the experiment exactly as you performed it. What are the limitations of your experiment? Could the methods have been improved to obtain more accurate results?
Results:
All of your results, including those presented in tables and graphs, must also be DESCRIBED in the text of your report – you must draw the readers attention to the important aspects of your results.
Discussion:
Your Discussion should be in essay format. You must discuss your results for your experiment and you should compare your results to previous studies and comment on differences or similarities. You must also discuss the questions presented in the Experimental Scenario.
You should also comment on your aims and hypothesis, and whether or not the results have accomplished and supported these.
References:
You should have at least five (5) references for this report, and three (3) of these must be journal articles from three (3) different journals.
