Your story should strive to be convincing and original. It should be satisfying and
meaningful in relation to all story parts and in conveying theme. Its perspective and register ought to be imaginative, convincing and satisfying. Its language should be sophisticated and/or engaging, relevant to context and add depth and resonance to the story. The expectation is that your creative work will achieve perfect spelling and grammar for the story context and that it will be presented to ensure that industry standards of layout and style are followed.
You will also include a statement of up to 300 (but no fewer than 200) words which indicates how the fiction engages with the issue. The statement should use references to indicate the relevant research material it has drawn on. This may include, but is not limited to, news media articles, scholarly journal articles, books of non-fiction or fiction and film, authoritative websites. (If you are unsure whether the website you are using is authoritative please consult your tutor before using it).
It is the purpose of the statement to articulate how you see links between the issue you have chosen to explore and its expression in the creative work, including an attempt to identify its genre and a significant stylistic device.
