Promoting KM: 2013 Marketing Strategy

I work for a governmental organization, one of the largest in the country called Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). I work in the Knowledge Management (KM) section, which is part of the Business Support division.

The competition here are going to be other government organizations located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as well.

Target market: each area of activity targets a different market segment; market segments are divided into 3 categories.

Our section is a small one, one manager and five staff working under this manager.

Part of our plan this year is to promote KM section, its approach, strategy, and policy –make it known among the staff of the organization, since many do not know about them. We also discovered that some do not know that this section exists in the organization, which was surprising.

Basically, knowledge management answers to the ‘know-how’.

Many of the staff that work in the organization do not know how they could benefit from knowledge management on an individual level, on a team/department/divisional level (by knowledge sharing), and on an organizational level (sharing with other divisions).

KM is a broad topic. It mainly encourages the capturing of knowledge, the sharing of the right knowledge — this sort of thing. You will need to do some research from British and Australian standards, which are the ones we use in our organization.

Other things we want to promote are KM activities, awareness sessions/training/workshops, assets, tools and techniques, etc. You will be able to find them in the files I’ll upload. I will upload a file which contains an organizational chart which shows all divisions of the organization, so you could write how KM could serve each division.
