Assessment Requirements in Detail
The assessment for this module is a case study.
Effective communication skills are needed in professional relationships with young people.
Describe a case study in which you realised your communication skills and reflected on the outcomes.
The case study should cover the following sections: (word count is given as guidance for each section)
A. Introduction:
Briefly outline what you will cover in your case study. Explain the scenario for the case study, where it is set and how you came to be involved. Outline what arguments you intend to present and state what will be concluded at the end of the essay (250 words).
B. What happened
Describe the events or interaction which you are using as your case study. What is your role and that of others. Explain how you assessed the situation, what skills and qualities you used, what you observed in others, how they responded. What did you notice about the other person/people? How did you feel about what happened? What would you have done differently? What key learning was there for you from the module?

C. Skills and methodologies
Outline the key aims and stages involved in your case study. What theroies are relevant to this? How you were able to determine whether you had successfully communicated with a view to making positive improvement in the lives and outcomes for at least one person involved. Consider perspectives from the literature by those in support of your chosen theories as well as those against it. Identify and describe other situations in which you might apply similar skills and methodologies in the future. Highlight what you have learnt about yourself and your ability to communicate effectively as a result of this case study and what, on reflection you would want to change in the future (2000 words).
D. Conclusion:
Give a brief ?summing up? of the ideas/arguments you have presented in your essay. What is the key learning for you? What will you continue to learn? (250 words).
This Case Study should address the wider counselling and communication policy context, relevant principles of youth and community work and strategies for improving communication and relationships for young people and those who work with them. This essay should address all of the 7 learning outcomes.
