The final essay is meant to give you a chance to demonstrate the reading
and critical thinking skills developed through the term. In this assessment,
you will develop and flesh out the arguments first expressed in your Essay
Plan, into a coherent theoretical argument that demonstrates your
understanding of key theoretical texts, and also clearly expresses your
own “voice” and argument.
Assessment Criteria

? Is the essay well-structured and coherent?
? Has the student demonstrated an ability to identify and discuss the
main issues raised by the essay question clearly and coherently?
? Has the student engaged substantially and critically with an
appropriate area of contemporary theoretical debate? [It is expected
that sources are suitably varied without a reliance on a single
data/literary source – there should be a combination of legitimate
internet material, books and journal articles.]
? Is the choice of texts appropriate given the essay question/argument?
? Has the student demonstrated an understanding of the core arguments
made by the authors analysed?? Has the student demonstrated an ability to express their own views
and critical reflections about the issues in the essay question, and
have they supported these views with appropriate arguments and
evidence?
? Has the student demonstrated an ability to express their ideas clearly
with appropriate grammar, spelling, punctuation and English
expression?
? Has the student demonstrated a capacity for the appropriate use and
