An amphibian is a cold-blooded animal such as a frog, toads, salamanders, and caecilians which metamorphose from a juvenile water-breathing form such as a tadpole, to an adult air-breathing form such as a frog, retains some juvenile characteristics. Amphibians live part of their life in water and part on land. They are vertebrates just like birds, reptiles, mammals, and fish. Amphibians typically have four limbs; however, the caecilians are notable for being limbless. Amphibians are outwardly similar to reptiles, and they lay eggs in the water.
