Business leader: chiplote Compare the performance of this company with the performance of one industry competitor-McDonald.

(8) Investigate your business leader’s organization in terms of performance over the past five (5) years. Determine which financial criteria you believe are the most important to examine and why you chose to examine them. You must include at least three (3) quantitative elements in your discussion (i.e., any statistical or financial data, stock price performance, sales growth, earnings/share, etc.). You may also consider examining the Board of Directors and elements of the Board that you believe are important to consider relative to your leader (i.e., size of the board, ages of board members, number of current EEs on board, their areas of expertise, etc.) as long as it is quantitative data. Then, compare the performance of this company with the performance of one industry competitor. Briefly discuss why you chose this competitor for your comparison. In addition to these quantitative discussions, create at least one graphic that effectively illustrates your comparison (i.e., histogram, pie chart, etc.). Finally, present a detailed critical analysis of the firm’s performance linking it to what you now know about your leader. I expect to see some consideration of how the firm’s overall financial performance may or may not be linked to your business leader.

Final Project: Using Visuals to Communicate a Message

Assignment Instructions: Visual media can have significant impact on how effectively a message is communicated. Appropriate and strategic visuals can inspire the audience, lend clarity to a message, and, in general, say things that words alone cannot.

For this project, use the concepts you’ve learned in this course to effectively apply visuals to a business-related message. Below, you will find just a few examples of how visuals can be utilized to communicate a message in the business setting. Feel free to choose one of these examples, or select one that is not listed.

Examples of Business Communication

How Each Example Might Look for Your Assignment Presentation on department achievements

PowerPoint slides with visuals, and associated speech in the Speaker’s Notes section at the bottom.

Print advertisement for your own business

Word document or PDF version of an advertisement, complete with appropriate image(s), composition, typography, and company logo.

Training materials on your job responsibilities

Word document or PDF version of job instructions, using typography, composition, and relevant images to promote clarity.

Company website

Word document, PowerPoint, or PDF “mock-up” that illustrates what you would want your website to look like. Complete with appropriate images, effective composition and color usage, company logo, and shapes representing where the buttons would be.

Informational brochure for a corporate event

Word document or PDF version of the brochure, containing appropriate visuals; typography; effective design, composition, and color scheme; as well as with relevant information on the event.

Throughout each of the five weeks of this course, you will decide on a message to communicate, determine the most effective platform or medium for that message, and select the most appropriate visuals to support the message. Note that each visual should be referenced.

Then, in week 5, you will finalize your communication piece and submit it along with a 3- to 5-page paper explaining the rationale behind your communication decisions.

As stated in your textbook, “branding is equated with everything from creative strategy to logotype design. It is said to exist through sophisticated color palettes, product packaging and service trademarks. Some marketers insist that branding is corporate image. Others align it with cohesive marketing communications, positioning, slogans or taglines.”

For this discussion, select a company and create a mood board that visually conveys its brand identity. Your mood board should include images of at least four of the elements (e.g., logo, color palettes, product packaging, slogans or taglines) described in the quote above.

Your mood board can be created through Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Glogster (http://www.glogster.com/), or Adobe Photoshop (converted to PDF). Once it is created, post it to the discussion forum as an attached file or a link. Describe the elements you included in your mood board, and explain how each one contributes to the overall brand identity for the company you’ve selected.

Globalization Communities – Assignment Description: Your task is to write a well-developed research paper on a contemporary issue regarding globalization and its effects.

Length Requirement: The paper should be at least 2,000 words and should not exceed 2,600 words. The paper must be formatted according to APA guidelines and include a references page (but no abstract).
Assignment Description: Your task is to write a well-developed research paper on a contemporary issue regarding globalization and its effects. The paper should be a work of critical analysis, meaning that it should formulate an original and compelling argument about the subject matter and should support that argument with relevant evidence and sound reasoning. In order to do this, the paper must focus on a specific topic (e.g., globalization and low-wage labor) and an even more specific issue (e.g., inhabitants of developing countries are often forced off of their traditional lands and left to compete for low-wage industrial jobs). Keep in mind that you may use popular source material to identify a topic area but you will need to begin doing scholarly research in order to define a good, specific issue.
Source Requirements: The paper must reference at least six sources, and at least four of them must be academic sources.
Rhetorical Situation: You are writing to scholars within a particular field of study of your own choosing. Your goal is to make an original and compelling contribution to the discussion of a particular issue within that field of study. The argument that you formulate should be situated in relation to arguments put forth by other scholars within the field.
Paper Structure: The paper should follow a simple-to-complex pattern of development (see “Paper Structure in Academic Writing” on pp. 122-28). Use the following guidelines to structure your paper:
I. I. Introduction: Your introduction should consist of one or two substantial paragraphs that adequately define the issue, establish the importance of the issue, and set up the thesis statement. The thesis statement should give your reader a clear sense of what your argument will be.
II. II. Body: Following the simple-to-complex model, your body paragraphs should develop supporting claims that build off of each other in ways that contribute to the development of the paper’s larger argument. Within the body of the paper, you should demonstrate the ability to use sources effectively, respond to opposing viewpoints, and use relevant evidence to support your arguments.
III. III. Conclusion: Your conclusion should consist of one or two substantial paragraphs that explain the paper’s fully developed argument and reflect on the implications of that argument for the paper’s audience: scholars within a particular field of study.
Style and Tone: This paper requires you to work closely with multiple sources, which means that you will need to use signal phrases and in-text citation consistently and properly (accordingly to APA guidelines) in order to effectively manage your source material without allowing it to overpower your own voice. In describing and responding critically to your source material, you will need to maintain a scholarly tone (objective and respectful) and avoid unintentional plagiarism.
