Consumer Behavior Critical Review

Introduction
• The length of an introduction is usually one paragraph for a journal article review and two or three paragraphs for a longer book review. Include a few opening sentences that announce the author(s) and the title, and briefly explain the topic of the text. Present the aim of the text and summarise the main finding or key argument. Conclude the introduction with a brief statement of your evaluation of the text. This can be a positive or negative evaluation or, as is usually the case, a mixed response.

Summary

• Present a summary of the key points along with a limited number of examples. You can also briefly explain the author’s purpose/intentions throughout the text and you may briefly describe how the text is organised. The summary should only make up about a third of the critical review.

Conclusion

• This is usually a very short paragraph. • Restate your overall opinion of the text
. • Briefly present recommendations.
• If necessary some further qualification or explanation of your judgement can be included. This can help your critique sound fair and reasonable. References
• If you have used other sources in you review you should also include a list of references at the end of the review.

Critique

The critique should be a balanced discussion and evaluation of the strengths,
weakness and notable features of the text. You can choose how to
sequence your critique. Here are some examples to get you started:
• Most important to least important conclusions you make about the text.
• If your critique is more positive than negative, then present the negative
points first and the positive last.
• If your critique is more negative than positive, then present the positive
points first and the negative last.
• You could begin by stating what is good about the idea and then concede
and explain how it is limited in some way.

Conclusion

• This is usually a very short paragraph.
• Restate your overall opinion of the text. • Briefly present recommendations.
• If necessary some further qualification or explanation of your judgement can be included. This can help your critique sound fair and reasonable.

References

• If you have used other sources in you review you should also include a list of references at the end of the review

Sodor plc is a manufacturing business specialising in the production of railway carriages

ASSIGNMENT BRIEF
Sodor plc is a manufacturing business specialising in the production of railway carriages. Its main business is located in the UK, but it has recently opened a manufacturing division (FC division) in Malaysia to produce the wheels for its carriages. The following information is available regarding the profit and assets of the division for the last two years (2013 and 2014):
[Note: all figures have been translated from Malaysian currency into £ at the appropriate rates during, or at the end of, the financial years.]
For 2013:
• The majority of FC’s sales are to internal customers, with just £100,000 of revenue earned from external sales in 2013. The internal sales revenue is four times as much as the external sales.
• Production costs for 2013 were £275,000, with additional administration costs equal to 40% of the production costs and a further selling and distribution overhead calculated at 28% of external sales revenue.
• The divisional operating assets were £1.1m at the end of 2012, and had increased by 12% in the year 2013.
For 2014:
• External sales revenue fell by 20% from its 2013 levels, offset by an increase of 45% in internal revenue.
• Production costs remained the same proportion of total sales revenue as they were in 2013, and the percentages and bases for additional administration and selling and distribution costs continued into 2014.
• Operating assets grew by just 10% over the year 2014.
Sodor plc has a company-wide cost of capital of 8%, and it uses average operating assets as the basis for all performance calculations.

Required:
You are the management accountant working for Sodor plc, and have been asked to prepare a report for your board of directors, focusing on the following tasks:
(a) Calculation of the Return on Investment (ROI) and the Residual Income (RI) for the FC division for the last 2 years, accompanied by comments on its performance. (20 marks)
(b) Suggestions of ways in which the performance results of this division may be improved in future years. (10 marks)
(c) Evaluation of the two performance measures that have been used in (a), particularly commenting on their suitability for assessing the performance of the divisional manager herself, as opposed to the overall divisional performance. This evaluation should include consideration of the following concepts that the board members are aware of, but do not fully understand:
• controllable vs divisional profit, and
• the use of opening, closing or average assets. (20 marks)
(d) The board is considering a number of ways to set the remuneration levels of the managers of its overseas divisions. It has decided to focus on the use of the Residual Income as the selected performance measure, but it still looking into a number of options regarding the incentive structure. Evaluate the following three alternative suggestions for divisional manager compensation schemes, and provide your recommendation to the board.
(i) A fixed basic salary with no performance related bonus,
(ii) A low (50% of current level) fixed basic salary with the potential to exceed current salary from a bonus based on divisional Residual Income, and
(iii) A low (50% of current level) fixed basic salary with the potential to exceed current salary from a bonus based on company-wide (rather than divisional) Residual Income. (25 marks)
(e) The board members are interested to know more about the concept of Economic Value Added (EVA(™)) which is being discussed as the “latest” development in performance measurement. Provide the following information to the board:
(i) Details of how EVA(™) is calculated, including the additional information that would be required over and above that used for ROI and RI calculations.
(ii) An evaluation of its suitability for an expanding business such as Sodor plc.
(15 marks)
Marks will be awarded for producing a professional report (suitable for use in a business situation such as that described above) (10 marks)
Your report should also be appropriately referenced, where applicable, with marks for referencing being included within the professional report marks indicated above.
(Total marks = 100)

[Note: Use of appropriate numerical examples to illustrate points made in the above report will be rewarded, though the examples themselves should be placed in appendices and discussed in the body of the report.]

• The word limit for the report is 2,000 words in total, with a penalty of 10 marks if the word count exceeds 2,200 words (10% of the above limit).

ER report

By Saturday, February 28, 2015, write an Initial Post with a description of 3 patients brought into the Emergency Room where you are working. You do not need a full assessment of all body systems for each patient, just the body system that is having the problem.

Your first patient has a musculoskeletal complaint. Using the chart of musculoskeletal medical word elements from your textbook, construct 10 medical terms that would reasonably be involved in a complaint dealing with the muscles and/or bones. For example, you could say that your patient had a herniated disk (rupture of a vertebral disk’s center that puts pressure on the spinal cord), perhaps due to lifting heavy weights, as part of her complaint. Each term should include its meaning in parentheses. Then list 3 tests or procedures that would reasonably be involved in evaluating a patient like this.

Your second patient has a gastrointestinal complaint. Using the chart of digestive medical word elements from your textbook, construct 10 medical terms that would reasonably be involved in a complaint dealing with the digestive tract. For example, you could say that your patient had glossitis (inflammation of the tongue), perhaps due to overindulging in jalapeno peppers, as part of his complaint. Each term should include its meaning in parentheses. Then list 3 tests or procedures that would reasonably be involved in evaluating a patient like this.

Your final patient has a respiratory problem, so something having to do with her breathing or lungs needs to be described. Again, use at least 10 terms from the reading, especially using the respiratory medical word elements from your textbook. Also, you need to include 3 tests or procedures that will help you to discover what the problem with your patient is.

Your response should be posted to the Discussion Area below. By the end of the week, begin commenting on at least 2 of your peers’ responses. Ask questions, further the discussion of the topic, reinforce a response, or add another dimension to the discussion. Always use constructive language.

preferences you see in practice today tend to most benefit whites, Blacks, or
others.

Video Viewing

write instructions

Find a mechanism or product around your home and write instructions on how-to install or operate that item. If you are unable to do this, write instructions on how-to cook, plant, or fix something. I would like to see at least one graphic in your document. This can be a drawing, a photo, other graphic, or a table. Refer to Chapter 9 in the Pearsall textbook for guidance. On pages 127, the sink repair is a good example of what I’d like to see. Notice how most of the sentences start with “connect” or a prepositional phrase followed by connect. In technical writing, we do not look for new words to describe the same thing. Wording consistency is paramount; therefore, use parallels and consistent terminology for this assignment. This work is supposed to be original. Do NOT copy someone’s work.

Apply methods of good document design to your paper, and ensure that you follow these guidelines.

1. Use the standard navigation methods of technical writing: title, headings, captions under the graphic, numbered steps for procedures, table numbers, page numbers, paragraph (1.5), and margins (top & bottom: 1″ and right and left: 1 ”).

2. Your paper should be single spaced; paragraphs should have two spaces between.

3. Use the readability standards of grammar: parallelisms, active voice, consistency, and so forth.

4. Use the term “you” to speak to instruct the readerdo not call them the user.

5. It can be a one-page document that has printing on both sides, or it can be longer.

6. Layout and content are important. Color is welcome.

7. Know your audience before your write.

8. Provide an introductory statement like a product overview, a parts list, or a welcome message.

According to Voltaire, what is love?

The book is Candide by Voltaire , translated by Lowell Bair

Topics

Does any body really love anyone else in the world of candide? A definition of the term might be helpful, so according to Voltaire , what is love ? Consider some of the couple in this world:

1) Candide and Cunegonde ( page 16& 17: page 101-108-110)
2) Pangloss and paquette (same pages also page 23-4)
3) Cunegonde and Don Isssachar (page 32-3)
4) Cunegonde and the Grand inquisitor ( page 32-3)
5) The Old women and her prince (page 39)
6) Cunegonde and the Governor of Argentina (page 47)
7) The girls and the monkeys (page 54-6)
8) Paquette and Brother Giroflee ( Pags 88-91)
9) Senator Pococurante and his young mistress (page 93)

Instruction
1. Your thesis must be controversial. It must not state the obvious, inviting a simple summary of the plot rather than an analysis of the issue you are discussing.

I would actually prefer that you do not use outside research at all and derive your ideas from your own reading book ( Candide) . In this case you only give page number in parenthesis after the passage you are discussing, especially if it quotes directly from the story. You don’t give a “ work cited” list at the end

2. The thesis should appear at the beginning of the paper, and it should have a narrow focus. That is , it should attempt to answer a specific controversial question . The thesis doesn’t have to interpret the meaning of the whole story. It should focus on a sing aspect of the story that reader disagree a bout. For example , here are three different answers to the question, “ What does Voltaire think of the conventional education of this day?
1) To understand what Voltaire thinks of the typical European education of his day, we need to examine how treats phony tutor pangloss, with his ridiculous ideas.
2) To understand what Voltaire think of the typical European education of his day, we need to examine how he treats the scholar Martin, Candide’s most reliable commentator of the societies of England, Germany and France
3) To understand what Voltaire thinks of the typical European education of this day , we need to examine how he views Cacambo, the lest educated Character in the story

3 The thesis must be defended by analyzing the content of specific scenes and also by analyzing at least a few direct quotations from the text of “ Candide”. You describe and analyze specific passages that support your specific narrow point or points. You thesis needs to be controversial because if it is not – in other word it’s something obviously true- you will wind up supporting it by retelling the entire story, That’s a plot summary, which is not what I want.

4. The length should be no shorter than seven hundred words, which is about three typed double space pages. The paper may be longer, as long as everything you say is relevant to the thesis.
