Instructions from my supervisor:
Consider the literature you are using for your review and question whether it is relevant to the title you have been given.
Focus on making sure there is a logical development of the topic you are reviewing.
Spend time interpreting the literature you are reviewing.
Integrate a variety of research ideas into your review.
Where possible, provide critical analysis of the information you present.
Provide a thorough overview of the literature relating to your topic area. The majority of this literature should be primary literature.
Focus on developing an introduction to your review that ‘sets the scene’ to the background of your review.
Spend time developing a good conclusion to your review which brings together your key findings from the review process
Take time to write an abstract that is properly representative of your entire review.

1. Abstract:
The abstract is a concise, informative summary of the review written in not more than 150 words. It should be readable without reference to the main text and should describe concisely the scope and the outcome of the literature review Remember, you should not repeat information contained in the title or refer to the literature.

2. Literature review:
Present your survey of relevant literature, including any data interpretation where necessary. Attention should be paid to any field, laboratory and theoretical studies in your chosen field. All statements should be backed-up with appropriate referencing. Please note that source material should not be reproduced verbatim or subject to only minor changes.

Illustrations: The sources from which diagrams, drawings and graphs are derived should be stated in the legend. Photomicrographs or microscopic drawings should give the magnification or the size of the subject in the legend. Ensure that you properly cite copies of diagrams, tables or other copyright material (this covers most published material).

Tables and Figures: these should each have an independent numbering system so they can be referred to easily in the body of the text. All tables and figures should be titled and referred to in the text. Conventionally, titles appear above the table whilst legends to figures appear under the illustration.

WRITING FOR THE MEDIA

Press release
Biggin Comprehensive School pitch perfect for community sports

Community sports groups are being offered the chance to use a new all-weather sports pitch.

Biggin Comprehensive School installed the pitch in the heart of Fulwood last year for use by youngsters taking part in an array of sports and games including football, hockey, lacrosse and netball.

And now the school has agreed to let local teams and sports clubs hire out the floodlit pitch in the evenings.

Money raised from the fees will be used to purchase sports equipment for the school.

Headteacher Ion Hendrie said: “The pitch has been a real asset to the school and we are delighted that it will now be available to the wider community.

“The school only uses the pitch during school hours so it stands idle at night which is a shame as lots of teams like to train in the evening but have trouble finding somewhere with floodlighting”

“We have had requests from clubs who would like to use the pitch at the weekends but we have decided to open it just on weekday evenings so as not to inconvenience residents living nearby.”

Peter Davis, who manages a local pub football team, The Dragons, welcomed the chance for his team to use the pitch.

“It’s going to be great for our lads to use Biggins pitch. We can only meet in the evenings as most of us have work commitments and it’s been hard finding somewhere local that has floodlighting. The pitch is surrounded by houses on three sides so it’s not as windy as some of the other places we have tried playing at and that, combined with the all-weather surface, means we can train until later in the evening and won’t have to miss so many sessions because of bad weather.

It’s also good that the money we pay will go towards helping the school buy sports equipment.”

The pitch will be available from 5pm-10pm every week night and can be booked via the school office for £30 an hour which includes use of the adjacent car park. Anyone who would like to book the pitch should contact the school’s main office giving at least 48 hours notice.

Notes to editors

Biggin Comprehensive School won this year’s Sheffield Schools Football Trophy in the Under-16s category and were runners up in the South Yorkshire Schools Hockey League.

The pitch was originally laid without floodlights after planning permission for floodlighting was refused but last August the school won it’s appeal to have the floodlighting installed which would allow school sports to take place at the end of the school day.

Local footballing hero Kenny Crookes, who supported the school’s floodlighting appeal will be visiting the school at 5pm on Wednesday, December 16th to give a coaching session to the successful Under-16s team. This release has been issued on behalf of Biggin Comprehensive School by SH Media.
