Write an essay in which you assess both the quality and the effectiveness of
the evidence used in the argument. Overall, does the arguer build a strong or
weak case?
As part of your analysis, be sure to provide an overview of the argument, in
which you identify the topic, thesis, and key supporting reasons. In your
analysis, consider the use of assumptions, statistics, studies, research, expert
testimony, inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning. Discuss fallacies if
they are relevant in the evaluation of the evidence.
Requirements:
The final draft must be typed, double-spaced, and at least four pages. Be sure
to follow MLA format guidelines.
Pointers:
Be sure to demonstrate a knowledge of individual paragraph writing and
multiple paragraph essay components (introduction, body, conclusion.)
Make sure your thesis provides a clear direction/purpose for the body.
Hit all three components: An overview of the argument, a comprehensive
look at the evidence used, and a judgment of the argument’s quality.
Don’t forget to include an overall assessment of the arguer’s case.
A paper will have a thorough introduction that establishes your topic; a
clear thesis that sets up the essay; an overview of the argument; an exhaustive
exploration of all key evidence; distinct body points; well-structured and
developed individual body paragraphs; a solid conclusion that recaps the
essay; a clear judgment of the arguer’s case; writing that is free of substantial
errors.
