Biographical Analysis
Length: 2-4 pages (Times Roman font, 12-pitch, double spaced)
For this assignment, you are to choose a writer from the list in our syllabus. Your paper will give a history of the hardships this writer had to overcome in order to achieve what he or she has achieved.
Be sure to include:
○ an introduction in which you get the reader interested in the author and his/her work. Give an overview of his/her work and its importance.
○ a thesis statement in the last sentence of the introduction. Your thesis statement will state the main point of the paper, which is that this writer faced several hardships. You may wish to state precisely how many hardships; you may also wish to list them in the thesis statement.
○ a clear account of the author’s hardships in chronological order. Be sure to use well-organized paragraphs.
○ a conclusion in which you explain what the end result of this author’s struggle was. What did he or she accomplish? What can we gather from the story of his or her life? What do we know now that we didn’t know before?
You must use MLA documentation in this paper: that is, include parenthetical in-text citations that identify your sources and a bibliography (Works Cited page). Be sure to use at least four scholarly sources. Use your own words to summarize, paraphrase, and/or synthesize your sources, and keep direct quotes to a minimum, avoiding dropped quotations.[1] Important: Include copies (i.e., xeroxes or printouts) of all sources referenced. Papers that are not accompanied by copies of sources will not be accepted and will receive a zero. Any plagiarism, whether intentional or unintentional, will result in a zero and will be reported to the Vice President for Student Services.
