Title: EFFECTS OF AGE AND TRUST ON DEPRESSION
The independent variables are two and they are continuous scale split into categorical, I.V1 is Trust, this has two levels which are strongly Agree and strongly Disagree. The I.V2 is Age and this has two levels as well which are younger and older. The dependent variable is depression and this will be measured by one Likert-type scale questionnaires, one will be a depression scale ( Zigmond and Snaith, 1983.) HADS, which ranges from 0-3 and this will measure how one feels in certain situations. Participants will be asked to underline the statements which come closest to how they felt in the past week. A likert trust scale (Rempel, Holmes & Zanna, 1985) will measure trust within close interpersonal relationships. This will indicate to what extent they agree or disagree with the statements on the questionnaire as they relate to someone with whom they have a close interpersonal relationship.
This is a 7 point scale as shown below,
Strongly Disagree as -3, -2, -1 Neutral being 0. And 1, 2, 3 as Strongly Agree.
Participants will be asked to place their ratings in the box to the right of the statement. This scale consists of 3 subscales which are, 1, ( P) for predictability 2, ( D) for Dependability and 3, (F) Faith. Researchers like Roberts,Kaplan, Shema,et al. suggest that it is not clear that age on its own increases the risk of depression, they suggest that there are other factors that could bring on depression. This study will examine whether age and trust has effects on depression.
The design of this study will be a two by two Independent measures, the study will be analysing data using a two way Anova.

Examine how McPherson in Ordeal by Fire: The Civil War and Reconstruction, has generally treated that figure. Use your notes and the index in the back of the text to focus your research.
Review the major events related to the person selected and corresponding description(s), depictions and incidents listed in the index. For each, examine the notes, footnotes and references McPherson has cited, in order to determine:
?What primary and secondary source material did he use? (Primary source material is original documentation created by an eyewitness, participant or author of an original document. Secondary source materials are those created by newspaper accounts developed from interviews, commentary by others on an event or person, books/articles/papers written by anyone who was not a participant in the event or is not autobiographic.)
?Are there hints about any method that he may have used to shape the information?
?What was the context of the incident(s)? Did McPherson keep that context clear ? allowing the events/persons to “speak” for themselves?
?Determine what materials were primary sources (that is, eyewitnesses’ statements, personal accounts) and which were secondary (that is, accounts by others who were not participants).
?If possible review the original material, particularly the Official Records. The Official Records of the Civil War, which can be electronically word searched and examined at:https://cdl.library.cornell.edu/moa/browse.monographs/waro.html
?Examine two to three other sources concerning the selected figure, looking for differing opinions, accounts, or depictions, in opposition or support of McPherson’s interpretation. Then, and explain the differences or corroboration. You should look beyond Wikipedia, and not use it as one of the two to three sources consulted.
As a result of the research and reading, you should be able to produce a paper which explains briefly the nature of the character examined, how the person has been depicted by McPherson and others, and give an informed opinion as to why or how those depictions were developed, and how they deviate/comply with the primary source material.
If you choose Lincoln, Davis, Lee or McClellan, be selective in determining how far you would take the subject. Those four figures loom large in the text and in the Civil War, and may present a larger project than you care to do or have time to produce. If you have questions, please contact your instructor for suggestions about narrowing or approaching the subject in a practical manner. For example, if examining Lincoln, you might select one of the categories listed by McPherson in the index, such as Lincoln ? “as commander in chief” and focus only upon the data used to shape the presentation in that selection of references from the McPherson text.

At the moment, they have $150,000 in cash, which they were thinking of investing in real estate. They actually looked into a couple of places (Miami area, and Phoenix). They also have about $175,000 in the Vanguard 500 Index (VFINX), and another $125,000 in a bank savings account. The options they have been considering are:

a) Going forward with the real estate investment, and finding some additional mutual funds in which to invest the excess cash.
b) Putting together a ?big chunk? of funds and investing in individual stocks (target 10 firms).

They would like your investment advisory firm to help them with this particular option. They would like to buy a second house (a 2 bedroom condo in Squaw Valley!), but they couldn?t possibly take on any more mortgage debt at the moment because they are still paying the mortgage on their only home. They hope that 1) they will go on paying their mortgage on their current house, 2) their salaries and bonuses will not change appreciably during the next 3-5 years, and 3) their stocks will appreciate enough to let them buy an investment home sometime in the future.

Before you talk about specific Bay Area companies, they would like you to clarify the following points for them. Please limit your answers to one (long) paragraph. They appreciated your comments about preferred stock and cash-dividend stocks but, because of their very high tax rate, they are not interested in stock income at the moment.

1. What does your firm recommend to them concerning options a) and b) above? Be specific
about the amount you recommend Kim and Rick to invest in the stock portfolio and about
companies and investment percentages in each (target 10 stocks).
2. Is it a good time to invest in the stock market for Kim and Rich?
3. Kim and Rich have a brokerage account with the Bank of America, and ?as we noted earlier–
they have a small amount of funds in the Vanguard 500 Index. Vanguard also offers a brokerage account. Should they look into other brokerage options such as full cost, discount, or electronic brokerage?

In Week 2 you worked on finding a topic, brainstorming, writing a thesis statement, and gathering evidence in support of your thesis statement. These are all components of prewriting leading up to your Final Product due in Week 4.

From your work in week 2 you should have a basic outline for your paper that you will turn into a rough or first draft. The rough draft is the first version of your essay. It is an important step in the writing process because it helps you see the strengths and weaknesses of your paper. The rough draft is not meant to be perfect, it is meant to be revised—maybe more than once. This is the time to try out new ideas, and see what works best for what you want to accomplish in this writing piece.

Here is a suggested sequence for writing the first draft, taken from chapter 6 of the eBook. There is also a useful checklist, Turning Outline into Rough Draft (pg. 56) and a Process Diagram: Writing a Draft (pg. 58).

Most writers do not begin by writing an essay from beginning to end, but rather build it in the following sequence.

• Write the introduction to your paper. The introduction must include the thesis statement. This is an important part of the paper. This is where you clearly state what your paper is about and your stand on the topic.
• Write other paragraphs in the essay’s body. For example, a background paragraph, and transitional paragraphs that can be used to move from one supporting paragraph to the next.
•Write the conclusion. The conclusion must be strong and not leave the reader hanging, like at the end of a bad movie.
•Now put your rough draft into the APA format.
