Introduction
The final week is focused on the future of business law including international law, environmental law, and the internet. By the end of this week students should be able to describe the importance of intellectual property law, explain legal concerns raised by technology and the internet, and describe issues faced by businesses in the global marketplace. Students will apply class concepts to life experiences in the Final Paper assignment.

Intellectual Property and Technology
Internet domain names are linked to trademark issues. Technology makes it easy to copy and distribute music and movies without paying royalties. Business conducted on the internet raise security and privacy issues. What legal concerns are raised by these issues? Predict which of these issues will be of major concern in the future in regard to the law and business practices.
Guided Response: Review your peer’s posts. Respond to at least two of your classmates describing whether you agree with their predictions or if you see the issues differently. Explain.
The Global Marketplace
How do governments attempt to control foreign businesses operating within their borders? When U.S. companies do business in other countries, what issues do they face? Describe the responsibilities and ethical concerns that you feel are important for U.S. companies to consider when doing business in other countries

Focus of the Final Paper
The Final Research Paper should address a topic that is connected to the content of this course (elements and requirements of a valid contract; issues related to real and personal property; intellectual property; employment law; and/or, international law and the global marketplace.) This paper should focus on a legal issue or situation that relates to a business environment or activity with a focus on the legal impact technology has on this issue. Ideally, this topic would concern a matter that you have experienced or that you have knowledge of; however, this not a requirement, only a suggestion. Apply the legal concepts and ethical considerations discussed in this course to your chosen topic. At a minimum this paper should include:
A detailed description of the topic.
An analytical discussion of the legal issues that are involved. This would entail examining the issue from different viewpoints.
A discussion of ethical considerations (Remember: What is legal may not be ethical).
A discussion of the legal impact technology has on this issue.
A well defined and logically stated argument to support your position. This would include any suggestion or ideas for improvement in this area of law.
Four research sources, two of which must be from the Ashford Library.
The paper also needs to meet the writing requirements that are set out below under “Writing the Final Research Paper."
Writing the Final Paper
The Final Paper:
1. Must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length, and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
2. Must include a title page with the following:
a. Title of paper
b. Student’s name
c. Course name and number
d. Instructor’s name
e. Date submitted
3. Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
4. Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought. That is, what is your response to the content, either positive or negative, and then defend your position. If multiple options/alternatives/positions are present and are being rejected you must also defend the reasons for rejecting an option
5. Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.

Spend time looking carefully and closely at your selected image and consider the impact or effect of the artist’s or producer’s various choices regarding medium, content (subject matter), formal elements (line, shape, form, colour, texture, space, value), and principles of design (balance, proportion and scale, rhythm, emphasis, unity and variety). Finally, organize your observations into an argument, the thesis of which might be an assertion about the overall visual impact or effect of the image.
You may compare and contrast your chosen image with others if you feel this will strengthen your argument or add depth to your analysis. Do keep in mind, however, that with a page limit of two to three pages you will need to pick out what you consider to be your most persuasive and interesting arguments and then communicate them concisely. Additionally, Gallant ordered the company?s controller to carefully scrutinize all costs that are currently classified as period costs and reclassify as many as possible as product costs. Follow the directions below for the completion of your Research Paper Draft 1 (the review of literature) for Unit IV.
Purpose:
The purpose of Draft 1 is to build upon the Annotated Bibliography and to move forward in drafting your final Research Paper.
Description:
In this assignment, you will build upon the summaries that you did for the Annotated Bibliography for Unit III. Unlike the Annotated Bibliography, however, the Draft 1 of your Research Paper is more than just a summary of sources. Instead, it is a conversation between sources wherein the student author places his or her sources into a conversation about topics surrounding the issue. You will need to review at least five academic sources for this assignment. You are not restricted to the sources used in the Annotated Bibliography, but that would be a good place to start. The length of the draft should be between 3-5 pages, not including the cover page or references page.
Elements:
Your Draft 1 grade is largely based on your inclusion of several elements and the overall quality of your writing. For assistance, you might want to refer to the examples in Chapter 20, Section 20g, of Strategies for Writing Successful Research Papers (pp. 438-444). Your Draft 1 must contain the following elements.

1. Cover page and APA formatting:
You should include an APA-style cover page for your Draft 1. See the example on page 16 of The CSU APA Guide (6th edition). Your cover page should include the following: the title of your paper, your name, and the name of your university (Columbia Southern University). The running head should include up to 50 characters from the title of the paper, along with a sequential page number in the upper right-hand corner.
2. Review of literature:
Below are techniques for writing a review of literature.
• Consider the topics that your sources cover. Then make a list of those topics. Cluster the topics together, and decide which sources speak to the same concerns.
• Decide which sources speak to the same issues, and decide which material from those sources that you will include.
• When sources discuss the same topic but do not agree, you should still include them in the same paragraph if you would like. There is nothing that says that two sources that disagree cannot be presented in the same paragraph.
• Remember to transition between ideas, sources, and paragraphs. Check out the list of transitional expressions on pp. 44-45 of The Little, Brown Compact Handbook with Exercises.
• Remember to include concise summaries of the material.
Avoid the following in a review of literature.
• Do not comment on the sources. Your job here is to present the material only, not to give your take on what is has to say.
• Do not include your argument. You do not want to argue in the review of literature because you are reviewing the literature, not asserting your argument. You will be able to argue for your position later in the paper.
• Do not just insert the summary paragraphs from your Annotated Bibliography. The review of literature is far more than just a list of paragraphs summarizing sources.
• Do not forget to cite your sources in text and to include a references page.
