Administrative Law and Business.

Administrative Law and Business
Some argue that government needs to increase its regulation of business for the good of society as a whole, while others believe that the marketplace is self-regulating and that government intervention through needless regulation places an unfair, costly burden on businesses in general and on small businesses in par-ticular. What role do you believe government regulation should play to ensure ethical conduct by businesses? How do different political viewpoints potentially shape the answer to this question?
Guided Response:
Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ posts in a substantive manner. Some ways to do this include the following, though you may choose a different approach, providing your response is substantive:

Part III: Regression and Correlation.

Part III: Regression and Correlation

Based on what you have learned from your research on regression analysis and
correlation, answer the following questions about the Body Fat Versus Weight
data set:

When performing a regression analysis, it is important to first identify
your independent/predictor variable versus your dependent/response variable, or
simply put, your x versus y variables. How do you decide which
variable is your predictor variable and which is your response variable?

Based on the Body Fat Versus Weight data set, which variable is the
predictor variable? Which variable is the response variable? Explain.

Using Excel, construct a scatter plot of your data.

Using the graph and intuition, determine whether there is a positive
correlation, a negative correlation, or no correlation. How did you come to this
conclusion?

Calculate the correlation coefficient, r, and verify your
conclusion with your scatter plot. What does the correlation coefficient
determine?

Add a regression line to your scatter plot, and obtain the regression
equation.

Does the line appear to be a good fit for the data? Why or why not?

Regression equations help you make predictions. Using your regression
equation, discuss what the slope means, and determine the predicted value of
body fat (y) when weight (x) equals 0. Interpret the meaning
of this equation.

Part IV: Putting it Together

Your analysis is now complete, and you are ready to report your findings to
your boss. In one paragraph, summarize your results by explaining your findings
from the statistical measures, hypothesis test, and regression analysis of body
fat and weight for the 252 men attending Silver’s Gym.

Peter Dekom outlines different ways to reduce costs in movie making. Which idea strikes you as the most practical and why?
A movie costs sixty million dollars to make, and the studio spends thirty million dollars on prints and ads, and the star gets 20 per cent of gross at “dollar one”:

When will the movie “break-even?” and earn back all its costs. (Pick one answer below.)

The fist “delivery” of an American movie to the public is theaters throughout North America. Name three other possible deliveries — sources of revenue — to the viewing public.
In the spring of 1998, which movie studio appears most stable? Why? Which studio appears least stable, and why?
Bonus Question: What three things can happen to a screenplay developed at a major studio like Universal?

Core Policy Analysis.

Core Policy Analysis

For this Application, which you will begin this week and complete by the end of next week, you are asked to analyze a core policy about health or healthcare. Examples might include policies on scope of practice for healthcare practitioners or on health insurance for children. After selecting your policy, locate resources to help you understand the specifics of it, including how its programs are organized and financed, how the services are delivered, and, generally, how well the policy has been implemented to date.

Make sure to select a policy on which you can focus in some detail. If you choose to analyze the policy on insurance for poor children, for example, you will soon discover that this policy differs from state to state, so you might wish to focus primarily on your state’s policy. Search Walden Library’s databases to find an article explaining the background on this policy—the journal Health Affairs, for example, frequently publishes summaries on initiatives in child health insurance.

In addition, learn about the pros and cons of this policy by locating opinion statements issued by state or national organizations, such as the American Hospital Association (AHA) or American Medical Association (AMA). Many of these organizations have Web sites in which they not only explain their perspective or opinion on a policy but also have legislative sections with commentary on policy proposals currently under consideration in government.

To analyze this core policy, it is important that you gather this breadth of information. In your paper, you must cite the following:

At least two articles, Web sites, or other credible and neutral sources providing analysis of this core policy; at least one of these sources must be a peer-reviewed article.

At least two opinion statements from stakeholders regarding the policy. To find these, consider who the stakeholders would be. AMA, for example, has an important stake in whether or not children are covered by insurance or not, and would be a good source for such a statement. Look also for opinion papers from other professional or special-interest organizations. These might be on Web sites or in journals. At least one of these statements should be from a stakeholder Web site.

After reviewing these materials, write a two to three page paper in which you address the following:

Summarize the policy and its main goals. Describe its implications on organization, financing, and delivery of healthcare services in the U.S.

Discuss why you think this policy was introduced and any challenges it has faced. For example, has it faced major challenges in being funded or implemented?

Summarize the opinions you have read. Based on this and your own understanding of the issue, do you think the policy needs to be changed significantly in order to meet its goals?

The pediatric community care center has decided to expand its operation by opening a small pediatric satellite clinic in your community or a specific area of your city. You have been selected as administrator for the new facility. As part of your duties, you have been asked to assemble a new multidisciplinary team of health care and administrative workers to staff the new facility and be responsible for providing a variety of pediatric services to children primarily residing in your community and possible adjacent areas.
Your boss has emphasized that the new team needs to be multicultural based upon the community needs, to be multicultural in case a diverse population exists within your community or the specific area of your city that you selected. In addition, your boss has cautioned that managing and leading multidisciplinary teams can be difficult. Although your boss has encouraged you to take advantage of current technology solutions to help manage the new facility and patients, she has been careful to point out that the new facility must be profitable.
Using demographical and epidemiological data available about your community, city, or state, and reflecting on what you have been taught throughout the course, prepare an essay in APA format that addresses the following:
Identify some of the challenges that you will face in opening the new facility in your specific community, such as assembling and managing the required staff; providing the required services and resources; building rapport in the new community; ensuring profitability of the clinic; acquiring and taking advantage of new technology to manage medical records; ensuring quality assurance; and complying with regulatory agencies to protect the health, safety, confidentiality, and rights of the patients.
Explain how you will address each of the challenges that you identified and any other related issues.
Discuss some of the specific skills and knowledge that you will utilize in opening the facility and managing the staff.
