U.S. involvement in the World since the late 19th century

Trace the motivations for U.S. involvement in the world since the late 19th century (military and otherwise).1、What have been the primary motivations behind Americans increasing presence in the world, especially since the end of the 19th century?
2、Which enduring tensions/attitudes of American society did persons, companies and/or the military carry overseas with them?
3、What were the primary concerns for sending the military into foreign disputes? (Hint: Think about the purposes and missions of the United States in a global context. Why do we think that the United States has a special purpose or mission in the world?)
4、What should the U.S. role in the world be? Why? (Please do not write a short essay that answers each of the questions in a corresponding body paragraph).

Integrative Paper

Only Resources Needed for References are these 2 books:
1. Textbook:
Ivancevich, J., & Konopaske, R., & Matteson, M. (2014). Organizational Behavior and Management (Tenth ed.). McGraw-Hill Irwin.
ISBN: 978-0-07-802946-2

2. Course book
Kotter, J., & Cohen, D. (2002). The heart of change: Real-life stories of how people change their organizations. Boston, Mass.: Harvard Business School Press.

ASSIGNMENT:
As stated in the syllabus, the integrative paper should be organized around the steps in Kotter and Cohen’s The Heart of Change. In other words, discuss how the concepts in the textbook and course overviews are consistent or inconsistent with Kotter and Cohen’s key themes and their reasoning.

INSTRUCTIONS FROM SYLLABUS:
You are required to write a review of John Kotter and Dan Cohen’s book, the Heart of Change. You will be expected to tie the materials in that book to the information presented in the text.

As you move through the text and other assignments, take notes and outline the connections between Kotter and Cohen’s book and the textbook as they occur to you. Given the number of principles and concepts that you can relate, the key is to identify and discuss only the most important concepts relevant to the assignment.

Because of increasing concerns with academic dishonesty, use proper citations when referring to specific materials in either Organizational Behavior and Management or The Heart of Change. This both clarifies which book you are discussing and provides citations necessary to avoid plagiairism. The format for citations is not critical. For example, “Kotter and Cohen, p. 120” or “Ivancevich, Konopaske and Matteson, pp. 145-47” are sufficient.

The Reemergence of Poliomyelitis

The order is in two parts, one part is something called a tutor marked assignment 03, or TMA03, the other part is the dissertation. I need the dissertation doing first and then the TMA03, as it makes more sense to work backwards as TMA03 is about constructing abstracts. The exact details are copied below.

TMA03 assignment:

Part 1 (20 marks)

This part carries 20% of the marks for this assignment and tests module learning outcome Ky2.

(i) Using the abstract you chose in Activity 20 of the Project Guide, explain why the abstract is appropriately structured and how it influenced you in writing your own draft abstract. (Word count: Mandatory maximum of 100 words for Part 1i).

(ii) Write a draft abstract for your project (Word count: Mandatory maximum of 300 words for Part 1ii).
11

Guidance
Follow the guidance on writing an abstract in Section 9.6 of the Project Guide. In practice, you will not be able to write your abstract until you have completed your project work and drawn your initial conclusions, but we ask you to present your abstract ahead of these in this TMA, as this reflects the order required in the final report. Comments from your tutor on this draft abstract should enable you to refine it for the final report.

Part 2 (10 marks)

This part carries 10% of the marks for this assignment and tests module learning outcomes C2 and Ky2.

Submit a draft of the contents page for your final project report.

Guidance

Part 2 has no word limit.

Aside from the introduction and conclusion, the core of your project should be organised into chapters with appropriate headings that cover all aspects of the themes of your topic areas as laid out in your objectives. In these chapters you will use a critical review of the literature to describe, discuss and evaluate your research. You may choose to have a separate discussion chapter or to have your discussion within individual chapters.
Help on the structure of your report is given in Section 9.3 of the Project Guide. Please take care to ensure you include all sections not listed as optional. Give your chapters and sub headings suitable titles

Part 3 (20 marks)

This part carries 20% of the marks for this assignment and tests module learning outcomes C3, Ky1 and Ky2.

Write an introduction to your project report. Please include your project title at the beginning for your tutor’s reference.

Guidance

Word count : Mandatory maximum of 500 words for Part 3 (excluding project title).

This may be considered as a draft introduction, as you may make amendments for the final report in response to tutor feedback comments.

Literature-based projects
You should ensure that you describe your topic and set the scene, give the scope of your research area, identify your project objectives explicitly and provide a brief overview of your search methodology. Aim to keep your search methodology overview to less than 100 words.

Part 4 (35 marks)
This part carries 35% of the marks for this assignment and tests module learning outcomes Kn1, Kn2, C1, C2, C3, C4 and Ky3.

Literature-based research projects
Write a review of the literature you have studied for your project (Word count : Mandatory maximum of 2000 words for Part 4).
SXE390 and other practical-based projects
Write a review of the literature you have studied for your project and a draft of the methods and results. (Word count : Mandatory maximum of 2000 words for Part 4).
Guidance
Guidance on writing up practical work can be found in Section 9.5 of the Project Guide and the SXE390 Study Guide. You should write up your methods and results so far and present this in draft form. Ensure that the methods are described in such a way that anyone can repeat the experiment. Materials can be listed in an Appendix.
Your literature review (as described below) will be a shorter section as you will also be reporting on the data you have collected and your findings thus far.
All projects
Section 9.5 of the Project Guide gives guidance on writing a literature review. This should be a critical review of the supporting literature for your project, not just a summary of information. Include figures, tables and equations where appropriate, and a list of your references using the OU Harvard Guide. The reference list at the end is not included in the word count but all in-text references are.
As noted above, aside from the introduction and conclusion, the core of your project should be organised into chapters with appropriate headings that cover all aspects of the themes of your topic areas as laid out in your objectives. In these chapters you will use a critical review of the literature to describe, discuss and evaluate the science underpinning your topic area. With more than two months left until the final project is due, you need not attempt to include all of the literature you plan to use for the EMA. Instead, for this TMA, to ensure that the critical analysis is of sufficient depth you can provide selected chapters. You should include evidence that at this stage you are working on all aspects of your themes though these need not be in equal amounts. It is highly likely that you will need to amend and modify these chapters in response to tutor feedback for the final report.

For the dissertation the following requirements are needed:

Part 1 (85 marks)
This part carries 85% of the marks for this assignment and tests module learning outcomes Kn, C and Ky
Submit your completed project report.
Word count: Mandatory maximum of 5000 words for Part 1.
Guidance
It is essential that you follow the instructions in Section 9 of the Project Guide on writing your report.
Word count
Where you are given a maximum number of words (e.g. 400 words maximum), this is a strict maximum and 10% of the mark for the Part will be deducted for exceeding this maximum. Further information will be available on the Forum close to the submission date.
When you have written your answer to a Part which has a mandatory maximum word limit, you must state the number of words you have used at the end of your answer (e.g. 385 words).
In order to demonstrate the learning outcomes of the module related to communication of information to a specialist audience, writing to a specific length is an important skill to develop. Research papers submitted to scientific journals have strict word limits. It is also an important mechanism in ensuring that all students are treated equally.
Please refer to Section 11.2 in the Project Guide for specific advice regarding word limits.
SXE390 and other practical-based projects
You must include your raw data and results in a separate file zipped in with your report. Any information in this file is not part of the word count.
Part 2 (15 marks)
This part carries 15% of the marks for this assignment and tests module learning outcomes Kn 2, P1 and P2.
Throughout the planning and writing of your project, you have been asked to reflect on your work. Here we ask you to reflect on the whole project – the process and what you have learned, what you would like to have done differently and what you would still like to do, if there were more time.
Base your answers to the following questions on these reflections referring, where appropriate, to particular entries in your log.

(a) (i) Did your final project end up addressing the research area and the objectives set out in TMA 01? Include a copy of the original pro forma you submitted with TMA 01, which had proposals for the title of your project and for your objectives. Annotate this copy to show any changes, e.g. by inserting text in a different colour or using track changes. The words on the original TMA 01 pro forma submission and your annotations of it do not contribute towards the 500 word count for this part of the EMA.
(ii) In what ways did your tutor’s feedback on your TMAs lead you to modify these initial proposals?
(b) (i) Of the skills you have identified in your skills audit in TMA 01, which have been the most important in enabling you to complete your project work?
(ii) What new skills have you acquired while studying this module?
(c) Suppose you had an opportunity to start your current project again on the same topic. With the benefit of hindsight what would you do differently and why?
(d) Suppose that to extend scientific knowledge you were asked to suggest a new project that would build upon your current project.
(i) Provide a title and draft objectives for this new project with brief supporting text. In terms of scientific subject matter, in what way(s) would your new project differ from your current project? Give reasons for your suggestions.
(ii) List two problems you anticipate encountering on this new project and briefly explain how you would deal with them.

Research Methods: Quantitative Approach

In Module 4 we focus on the essential components in designing a method procedure for a quantitative study. Chapter 8 of your textbook, Research design: Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches, provides an excellent review of quantitative methods including instrumentations, experimental and survey designs, and issues related to threats to validity. Creswell (2009) also provides an example of an experimental method section on pages 167–169. You will learn more about the data analysis strategies in the next research course (R7031 Methods and Analyses of Quantitative Research) in the research curriculum.

We covered issues related to selecting participants and sampling in Module 3, so we will focus more on the issues related to instrumentations in this module. We have asked you to identify some potential research questions you are interested in investigating in this course. At the end of this module, you should be able to operationalize the constructs by selecting specific variables and specific instruments that best assess those variables.

While students sometimes create their own instruments to assess variables in dissertation studies (in some disciplines more than others), it is best to use psychometrically adequate instruments that have been validated in order to assess the variables of interests meaningfully and accurately. Typically, 11 essential elements of an inventory should be included in the description of each instrument in the method section (Heppner & Heppner, 2004) including:

Instrument name
Acronym
Author(s)
Key reference(s)
A brief description of the construct the instrument assesses
Number of items
Type of items (e.g., Likert scale)
Factors or subscales and their definitions
Indication of the direction of scoring and what a high score means
Reliability estimates
Validity estimates

Among these 11 elements, reliability and validity are probably the most critical. We will review them further on the next page.

Examine the purpose of a study, research methodology, and data collection methods.
Compare and contrast the characteristics of different research questions and possible methodologies.
Draft a methods section appropriate to research question(s).

professions. Thousand Oaks, CA: Thomson/Brooks-Cole.

Research Methods: Quantitative Approach

Reliability refers to consistency between measurements at different time intervals. The two primary ways of reporting reliability are alpha coefficients (also known as Cronbach’s Alpha, α, for internal consistency) and test-retest correlations (for stability). Internal consistency tells us how well the items hold together in a scale when they are designed to measure the same construct. The rule of thumb is that, in social sciences, the alpha coefficients should be above .7. Test-retest correlations reflect the stability of a person’s scores on the same inventory over time.

Validity refers to the ability an inventory can accurately assess the construct that it intends to measure. Construct validity (the degree to which the scores reflect the construct you are trying to measure) is particularly important. If the instrument is not really measuring what we intend to measure, then the results/interpretations of the data cannot be meaningful. It is often recommended that you use multiple dependent variables (Cook & Campbell, 1979). For example, in outcome research, we can use behavioral observations, self-reports, reports of others, and rater’s ratings, multiple ways to operationalize the construct of outcome.

This brings us back to the importance of using validated (published) instruments of which reliability and validity have been examined and evaluated. Finding out how your constructs of interest have been operationalized and assessed in the past is one of the critical goals of conducting a literature review.

In addition to the assigned reading, please also read the following two articles. One is by Yegan Pillay (2005), which gives an excellent example of a method section for a quantitative study. The other one is by Patrick, et al. (2008), which by contrast, does not provide adequate detail in the method section. Both articles can be located through EBSCO/PsycINFO in the Argosy University online library resources.

Consumer Purchase Behavior

Consumer Purchase Behavior

You are the business manager of a trendy hairstyle shop in downtown Chicago. As a manager, you are in charge of payrolls, paying the bills, hiring and firing, purchasing, training, and customer service. You provide a luxury service, and your average customer has different demographics from the rest of the population in the city.

Due to recent competitive developments, you feel the need to learn more about your customers; you specifically want to know how they choose your services over that of the competition. You are aware of the steps in the consumer purchase behavior model and are determined to analyze them in detail.

On the basis of the given scenario, answer the following questions.

Using Maslow’s hierarchy of needs model as a backdrop, with an eye on the consumer Purchase Behavior Model, determine the real motivations behind the use of the service provided by you.
Evaluate an additional social and cultural factor that will help you to analyze your customers’ behavior.
What service criteria do you think your customers use to select the type of service you offer? Explain your answer using an example to illustrate your point.
Assess methods (think about the entire marketing mix) that might be useful to encourage loyalty among existing customers.
Justify your choices with valid assumptions and logically driven arguments. Cite any sources using APA format.

Marketing The Service

Final Project: Marketing the Service

It is critical to make the best of every interaction with the customer.

Analyze the key elements of buying products through customer service or direct services from your company.

Create a blueprint (diagram) detailing the service delivery process involving the frontline employee–customer contacts before, during, and after the purchase. Each contact should be clearly identified and deliberated.

On the basis of the blueprint, select possible contact point failures where you would create improvements in the form of new or improved services. Why do you consider these to be contact point failures?

For these contact point failures, identify and analyze at least two areas for improvement or creation of new services. Why are you suggesting these areas? How will customers benefit by improving these areas or creating new services?

In addition, write a statement positioning the brand around the new or improved services.

Submission Details:

Present your analysis as a 6-page report in a Microsoft Word document formatted in APA style.
On a separate page, cite all sources using APA format
