1. Explain how “Dasein’s openness to the world is constituted existentially by the attunement of
disposedness [or state-of-mind, Befindlichkeit].” (176) What are the consequences of the
phenomena of disposedness and mood for knowing/cognition (Erkennen), especially the scientific
mode of inquiry? Do you agree with Heidegger’s account of disposedness and mood?

Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences, 1 (2002), 287–312
2. Why does Heidegger think that “interpretation is never a presuppositionless apprehending of
something presenting to us” (191). Is he right? Why or why not? What consequences does this have
for how we carry out interpretation?
Hoy, David Couzens, ‘Heidegger and the Hermeneutic Turn’, in The Cambridge Companion to

Mark A. Wrathall (Malden, MA: Blackwell, 2007), pp. 265–284
3. What is Heidegger’s stance towards the traditional conception of truth as agreement? How does
primordial truth relate to truth in this traditional sense? Do you agree with Heidegger’s account of
truth? Why or why not?

and Mark A. Wrathall (Malden, MA: Blackwell, 2007), pp. 248–264
4. Heidegger says that “Dasein is dying as long as it exists” (295). In what sense is death
constitutive of Dasein? Do you agree with Heidegger’s view? Why or why not?

the Topology of Being (Cambridge, MA.: MIT Press, 2012), pp. 177–198
5. What does it mean for Dasein to be authentically? What, if any, are the implications of the idea of
authenticity for ethics (conceptions of how we should act, what good and bad action consists in)?
Give reasons for you answer.

6. Heidegger writes that “Temporalizing does not signify that ecstases come in a ‘succession’. The
future is not later than having been, and having been is not earlier than the Present.’ (401) Explain
what ecstatic temporality is. Why does Heidegger think that “the ordinary conception of time” as
the successive ordering of the earlier and later is “derivative” of ecstatic temporality (374)? Is he
right on the latter point? Why or why not?

Social Entrepreneurship Research Paper: “Develop a meaningful applied research question on a topic of current importance to the field of global social entrepreneurship, and then answer that question through a concerted research effort that examines both sides of the particular question and then offers a recommendation for resolution or action.”

For example, an interesting research question for you and your assignment partner to consider might be:

“Should the chief executive or senior leader of a non-profit social enterprise be able to earn a salary that is equivalent to that of a CEO of a high growth business (e.g., $500,000 or more in annual salary earned by several well known social entrepreneurs)?”

Another example:

“Should the patent laws be changed on a global basis to prevent the patent holder from blocking competitive offerings of humanitarian relief products especially in the context of a crisis such as famine?”

Or, a third example:

“Should the leading nations of the developing world (for example, India and Mexico) regulate the microfinance industry to cap interest rates, mandate transparent loan terms and prohibit public trading of shares?”

So our first step is to develop the research question.

Social Entrepreneurship Research Paper

Compose a well written 1000 word paper ,analyzing and comparing three definitions of religion (one good, one poor and your own initial definition).

Steps in the process:
1) Provided a list of definitions of religion (see resources, below) rank them from “best” to “worst” (print and mark, copy and paste and then rearrange the list in your own order – move the statements higher or lower in the list). Remember, just because you “like” or “don’t like” a given definition (a gut level response) does not necessarily mean it is a “good” or “bad” definition. You should consider what you have learned about the criteria that go into making for a good vs. bad definition of religion as noted in the course materials (reference the lesson on “Defining Religion” in Unit I)

2) Select one of the best and one of the worst (from your ranking) and explain why you classified them as you did. Be sure to clearly reference the criteria for a good definition that you have learned about.

3) Conclude by taking a look at your own initial definition of religion (from prerequisite activity #1, above) and rank it in relation to the others. Does it fall closer to being among the best or the worst? Why? If it is not near the top of the list as among the best, what might you do to improve upon it? Your last sentence should be your new and improved definition of religion.

4) “analyzing” demonstrates a clear understanding of each criteria to consider and applies these properly in relation to each of three definitions discussed

5) “comparing three definitions”: does indeed discuss three distinctly different definitions, including your own, and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of each definition in contrast to the others

There are two topics that you can pick from and which ever one is of more interest to you we’ll go with that and then I will upload that particular chapter for you to read. (the chapters are all very short, only a couple of pages long).

1) John Kroger and Kenneth Cuccinelli (chapter 1, John Rourke’s book) offer different perspectives on constitutionality of the mandate requiring individuals to buy health insurance. Which viewpoint is more compelling? Why?

2) Monica Youn and Todd Henderson (chapter 8, John Rourke’s book) offer different perspectives on whether corporations should be permitted to participate in election campaigns. Which viewpoint is more compelling? Why?

The essay should be anywhere from 5-8 pages in length and should include a short hypothesis upfront, the main section and the conclusion. In the main section, you should introduce critical and analytical arguments to substantiate your hypothesis. Your conclusion should revisit your hypothesis on the basis of your analysis. The essay will be graded primarily on the basis of quality of your critical argument and analytical considerations. Structure and composition will also be graded. The essay has to be well structured and well written in addition to addressing the specific assignment question. All borrowed material should be properly referenced with footnotes. Bibliography of all sources used should also be included. This assignment does not require the research of the material beyond the texts assigned for the course. Use your knowledge and your best judgment when deciding which facts or opinions to introduce to support your hypothesis, but do not forget to refute the opposition’s argument: your opinion, whatever it is, is not the only one on the issue you address.

American Literature: Each student will write a research paper that answers a specific research question about one of the texts we read, interprets the scholarship relating to that question, and expresses the author’s own critical analysis toward the topic.

The essay should appropriately use MLA citation, including both parenthetical in-text citations and a Works Cited page, and should include at least 5 sources other than the textbook, at least 3 of which must be something other than a website source (online journals don’t count as a website source here). This essay should be at least six typed pages, but may be more (Times New Roman 12 pt).

My Research Question:
What were the implications that socialist writers such as Twain and Sinclair have on the political policies of early American government? how much of an impact did the extreme writers have on changing the thoughts and actions of the American people?

I have included for you the grading rubric for this essay. This is a HUGE part of this class grade, I need a writer who is spot on in every way!!!
