problem within an actual organization. The selected organization may be your own
workplace or another organization to which you have the necessary access for data
collection and proposal design. The use of an organizational pseudonym such as ABC
Organization, XYZ School, or QRS Hospital is encouraged.
You are responsible for selecting an organization for the consulting proposal. The
proposal will include: (a) the description and the historical background of the
organization; (b) the problem statement, which is the reason for the OD intervention; (c)
appropriate data collection related to the problem; (d) data analysis; (e) literature review
of at least eight journal articles and/or books (websites are also encouraged but may not
take the place of journal articles and/or books); (f) description of the OD intervention;
(g) plan for implementation; and (h) plan for evaluation to determine the effectiveness of
the proposed intervention.
The actual data collection may come from a variety of sources such as organizational
reports, interviews with key individuals/employees, surveys/questionnaires, external
sources, etc. (see Appendix B). The collected data will be analyzed, interpreted, and
presented as a logical basis on which to build the proposed intervention.
The bulk of the assignment is devoted to the intervention strategies that make up the OD
proposal. Note that these strategies must be based in the current (within the past five
years) literature of OD. The proposal must be written with clarity and with enough detail
so that another consultant can replicate the OD intervention. Be sure to include
appropriate timelines for each process in the proposal.
The last part of the OD proposal consists of the rationale for why you should be given the
job of implementing the OD proposal. You are expected to describe briefly your
qualifications as a consultant and your expertise in solving this particular problem. You
should also keep in mind that the entire proposal must have visual appeal, because such
proposals are presented in very competitive environments.
