Find the cultural demographics in your local school district by searching the district name and the word “demographics” on the Internet. For example, the San Diego Unified School district provides this information on the “About San Diego Unified School District” page. Also, use the web pages you visited this week on cultural awareness around the world. Review the “Cultural Etiquette Around the World” website and read the articles, “Creating Culturally Responsive, Inclusive Classrooms” and “Empathy and Cultural Competence: Reflections from Teachers of Culturally Diverse Children” to investigate how to make your current or future classroom more culturally sensitive to specific populations in your district’s elementary schools.
