DEVELOPING A CATCHMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN

Environmental resources in Victoria are largely managed at a catchment scale. In
theory, this approach enables resources to be managed in a coordinated and integrated fashion,
thereby ensuring that land (terrestrial and coastal), water (fresh and marine) and biological
resources are considered collectively when management decisions are made. To implement this
management approach, Victoria has been sub-divided into 10 Catchment Management Authorities
(CMAs), each of whom has responsibility for a specific spatial region. The objective of this
assessment task is to investigate one of the five Victorian coastal CMAs and produce a management
plan that will direct management priorities for the next 10 years.
