Critically evaluate the project management issues faced by G4S plc for the London 2012 Olympics and their handling of the project. (40 marks)
In the light of the above, analyse and recommend what G4S plc should have done differently, from a project management point of view, to deliver the project on time and to budget. (60 marks)
It is expected that your analysis will evaluate what went wrong, why and what G4S plc could/should have done differently from a project management perspective.
Additionally, you should evaluate how well the organisation communicated with its stakeholders.
A set of recommendations for improvement with a related timeline is also expected.
Remember that you can use Appendices to include project plans and supporting documentation.
Your analysis should refer to academic theory and apply relevant models and concepts both from the course and your own reading.
Special Instructions:
Referencing should be done using the APA convention. To help you with this, information is available on the university website as follows:
•APA Referencing Online Tutorial and Guide – Official APA style manuals are available within the University Learning Centres, please check the Learning Centre Catalogue (OPAC) for availability.
Endnote
Careful referencing of sources is vital when making use of the work of others. You are expected to employ the referencing conventions recommended in the Course. These conventions apply to information taken from internet sources, as well as books, journals and lectures. If you are unsure of the way to reference properly, seek advice from a member of staff before you submit the assessment (also see instructions above). These are some of the points you should check before submitting your work:
•are all direct quotations, from both primary and secondary sources, suitably acknowledged (placed in quotation marks or indented)?
•have you provided full details of the source of the quotation, according to the referencing convention used in the Course?
•have you acknowledged the source of ideas not your own, even if you are not quoting directly from the source?
•have you avoided close paraphrase from sources? (Check that you are not presenting other people’s words or phrasing as if they are your own.)
•if you have worked closely with others in preparing for this assessment, is the material you are presenting sufficiently your own?
