Use your textbook and the Library to complete the following:
• In Current Psychotherapies, read Chapter 5, "Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy," pages 151–191.
• In the Capella library, locate a journal article by Albert Ellis and be prepared to discuss it in the discussions for this week.
• Read transcript of video on REBT
Mock Interview
Using the same helper from last week, or a new helper, conduct a new hypothetical therapy session using the ABCs of REBT. Have the client describe something that happened to them that resulted in some negative feelings. As the therapist, ask your client questions to:
• Clarify the event and their feelings and to elicit their beliefs about the event.
• Help them figure out what is irrational about their beliefs and how that is the cause of their negative feelings.
• Help them develop more rational beliefs leading to more positive feelings.
You will evaluate this interview in a discussion for this unit.
Q1- Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy
How is REBT different from Psychodynamic Therapy? How is REBT different from Client Centered Therapy? Briefly describe the article you read by Albert Ellis. How did you like his writing? How did the article enhance your understanding of his theory?
Response Guidelines
Respond to at least one other learner who read a different article from you. Ask questions to more clearly understand the article(s).
Q2- Practicing REBT
Describe your mock counseling session. How effective were you at helping your client discover irrational beliefs and replace them with more rational ones?
Response Guidelines
Respond to at least one other learner who seemed to have a very different experience from yours in the mock therapy session and comment on how you can share the knowledge you both gained from the experiences.
