Specific Assignment
? The assignment is to analyze the experiences of three generations of your family (including your experiences) and apply the course material to your family’s experiences on the specific main topics covered in the course.
? You must present and analyze the experiences of your grandparents, parents, your experiences and your siblings (if you have siblings), three generations in your family. You should present the experiences of those who have had the greatest impact on you and your experiences (remember that your grandparents’ experiences affected your parents’ experiences and therefore have played a role in your experiences). ? You must choose THREE main topics to include in your paper. Each main topic must apply to each generation in your family in some way. Choose from the following main topics: gender, social class, race/ethnicity/culture, sexuality and intimate relationships, partner selection/dating/cohabitation, marriage, work and the family, parenting, family violence, divorce, or remarriage and stepfamilies. In each main topic section of your paper it is required that you include specific examples from each of the three generations.
? One of the goals is for you to demonstrate your understanding of course material and ability to apply the course material to your family’s experiences. Another goal is for you to trace your family history and personal development through the process of sociological analysis. You will accomplish these goals by analyzing your family’s experiences on the topics (from a sociological perspective), and applying the course material (terms, concepts, research/study data, social theories) to your family’s experiences.
