You were hired as International Relationship Manager in a global pharmaceutical company to facilitate implementation of the Knowledge Management System within Research and Development teams based all over the world ( please refer to the real information on the chosen organization).
It is anticipated that Knowledge Management System, which is about to be coming live in all branches of the company, might cause uncertainty, resistance and hesitance from all employees who have previously proven to be change-averse and did not warmly welcome any previous projects attempted to be introduced of such scale.
For that reason, Managing Director asked you, to write and present a report on the aspects which they need to consider prior to start-up of the new project in order to facilitate the introduction and support staff during its chaotic implementation.
The purpose of your report is to highlight 3 main issues of the stakeholders` management which might emerge throughout any point of the KMS implementation and its maintenance. Furthermore you are required to evaluate 2 potential outcomes/ scenarios:
1. Where identified issues issue are ignored and nothing gets addressed, as well as the possible consequences on the KMS implementation and potential future of the organization
2. Where the identified issues are considered, support system is implemented and appropriate action is taken and as a result the consequences on the KMS implementation and potential future of the organization
You are expected to present the report to all senior managers (30 managers across 3 main countries from 2 different continents) and the project manager from Canada who just moved in to UK (Check which countries are suitable to the company chosen from the FTSE 100 listing).
The Knowledge Management System might require further coaching and training to ensure the change management is executed accurately and followed to assure successful outcome of the project.
KMS is designed to promote information sharing in all Research and Development sites all over the world, where teams in different continents carry out exactly same set of clinical trials on exactly same new product. All of the Research teams work with volunteering patients of different ages, background, suffering from the same condition, and the laboratories and specialist research the same illness in the same discipline all over the world in order to have the new drug tested, approved and available worldwide. The comparison of data, findings, and improvement on the ingredients of medical treatments, the best dose and application tested all over the world is essential to identify differences in population, climate and lifestyle and the effect on medicine and their potential side effects on patients.
However, some managers have already aired their reluctance towards application of the new system and are trying to vote against “Sharing the findings for someone else claim the discovery or patent of new product” without even knowing the benefits of new Knowledge Management System.
