The task
To complete the assessment you take part in Pressure Point – an online workplace simulation using virtual technology – to produce two separate 200 to 250 word media releases.
The Pressure Point scenarios portrays various players in a local planning debate from three different, but related, settings and perspectives in an interactive workplace simulation.
During each session (civil and state) you are asked to play the role of a public communication practitioner and complete a media release that ‘frames’ the situation from the issuing organisation’s point of view.

Word limit: 400 to 500 words (200 – 250 words for each media release)
Weighting: 10% of unit mark

Formatting
• Follow the industry standard media release layout
• Keep each media release to one page in length
• Submit the two releases as one two-page document
• Academic referencing will not be required as this is a practical exercise
• Each release should be on the organisation’s ‘letterhead’ (further details announced in week six)
• Use 2.5 cm document margins
• Use 1.5 or 2 line spacing
• Use 10 or 12 point font (Arial or Times Roman)

Marking criteria
• Identification of newsworthy key messages
• Application of media release writing skills
• Inclusion of well-ordered, factual information
• Layout, spelling, grammar and punctuation
