Description. Talk about an artwork and you want your reader to visualize, so describe it as precisely as possible. Be thorough, but concise. It should not take more than 2 paragraphs.
Stylistic Analysis. This should be the 1st major part of the essay. This should explain how the piece you chose could be understood in relation to other artwork of the same culture or period. Even though the museum identifies the period for you- you must point out which characteristics of the period are shown. For example, you might learn that Aegean metalwork is characterized by repousse technique and spiral motifs then apply your knowledge to you object, for example ?the artwork at the museum is made in repousse, and shows the typical spiral motifs but includes an unusual design not seen in other typical Aegean artworks.? You will prove this by comparing it to an object in the textbook or found online (eg. ?a similar mixture of motifs can be seen in the artwork?.?).
