Prepare Rationale Argument Map 4 on the basis of one of Wilson’s contentions about the Theory of Evolution in Chapters 11 through 15. Your map should show four elements:
1. One main Contention presented in the chapter–What is that argument? Keep it to one simple sentence!
2. At least two reasons why readers should agree with the contention;
3. At least one objection discussed by Wilson;
4. At least one rebuttal to either an objection presented by Wilson.
An Argument Map 3 from 2012 is posted below. It shows three simple arguments from Wilson’s Chapter 10, each with only one reason and co-premises. For AM4, you will need to have two reasons and at least one objection and rebuttal. Your map will have several reasons and objections, and probably several levels, too. Follow these steps:
• Show an important argument of the chapter as the map’s contention;
• Indicate and correctly map at least two reasons used to support the contention; add premises and relevant co-premises;
• Indicate and correctly map two objections used to oppose the contention; add premises and relevant co-premises;
• Add any rebuttals you gleaned from reading Wilson’s chapter;
• As a final step, indicate whether or not you find the argument compelling – Do you agree? Why? What do you find convincing? Add commentary as needed to explain your conclusion. You can use the little ‘stickies’ to do so.
