Graduate Attributes
Communication – of how cosmetic products being used in a contemporary environment impact on the salon environment will be conveyed through the written essay.

Improving own learning and performance –Through the exploration of cosmetic products being used in a contemporary environment in the essay, will improve on their existing knowledge.

Assignment Remit
Examine and assess the properties, uses, benefits and potential results of using preservatives in the modern salon environment. You may wish to consider the following:

• Justification & analysis of the types, limitations and preservative formulations, their use and how they impact on the products, their users’ and the environments they are used in.

Format
This is an individual essay & represents 65% of the marks awarded for this module. Students are expected to complete this assignment individually.

Length
This should be around 1500 words – appendices not included in the word count.

2. Introduction
• Introduce the topic [theme/thesis/title] and the sector context relating to your programme.
• State the purpose of the essay/report – what is the essay/report setting out to achieve e.g. analyse, discuss.
• Define any key or unfamiliar terms (only if needed at this stage of the essay).
• Outline the key major points/issues/themes to be addressed within the body of the essay.
• Consider the structure, sequence and content of the essay as key features to guide you through. For example, outline the sequence of key issues.
• In some cases, state the possible conclusion(s).

Significant Points

5. Remember
• Candidates must be careful to write essays that answer the question. The person who reads your essay should be able to guess the wording of the question from reading the introduction to your essay. If the reader cannot do so then it is likely to be a poor answer.
