Leadership in Action Descriptions and Instructions
This project affords you the opportunity to put into practice all that you have learned about leadership! For the �Leadership in Action� project a minimum of 300 minutes (5 hours) of leadership in action must be performed. The purpose of this project is for you to identify and practice leadership concepts and skills. Furthermore, you will reflect upon how you used the theories, concepts, and skills. This task can be anything demonstrating leadership such as volunteering at a nursing home, animal shelter, food bank, raising money for a cause, etc – be creative! However, the task may not involve your occupation. Also, the experience must take place during this semester (previous experiences are not eligible). I encourage you to begin planning for this project early in the semester as it involves significant time to complete.
Prior to beginning, you must submit a project proposal via email to me for approval no later than 3/9/14. The proposal should be a Word document no longer than one page which includes a brief summary of the details and nature of the task, anticipated opportunities to practice leadership, and goals and objectives to achieve during the experience. (HINT: Although using the APA style is not necessary for the proposal, I recommend you use headings to make these sections very clear for me to see). Multiple sites maybe used if necessary to complete the required hours.
This project is a formal academic paper. The paper must be at least 10 pages but no more than 12 pages in length including a title page and a reference page. The paper must include details of your experience, research, and findings. The paper must clearly explain what you experienced and how the leadership activity related to leadership theories and concepts discussed in the textbooks. Finally, clearly address how you demonstrated internal locus of control, self-confidence, socialized power motive, and achievment orientation. At least ten scholarly research sources should be used in addition to the course textbooks. Scholarly resources may include journal articles, books, academic and professional websites, etc. If you are not sure if a source is scholarly, feel free to check with me ahead of time.
