a) Topicality of this law review material and cases will be a part of the grade for the paper.

2) Discuss how the material from the O’Brien textbook contributes to the discussion of the issue in the pending Supreme Court case that is the topic of your paper.
a) Summarize the discussion relevant to the issue in the pending case found in the O’Brien textbook. The relevant material in the textbook may not have been assigned as reading for the course.
b) Identify the relevant material in the textbook by author and page number(s).
3) Paraphrase materials in your own words There should be no lengthy quotes of materials. Language of constitutional and statutory provisions is absolutely unneeded for this paper.
4) Use appropriate referencing. Frequent referencing in the paper is a must, for all assertions in the paper there should be a reference to some authority.
c) There should be a summary and conclusion to the paper.
4) Use a reference page to identify the sources (statutes, appellate court opinions, and law review articles) found for the paper.

The numbers at the end of this reference refer to the volume number and the range of page numbers. The first page is easy enough to find on Lexis-Nexis. Keep in mind that Lexis-Nexis attempts to identify for the reader all the page numbers of the printed version of the article by brackets and an asterisk, such as: [*404]. Thus, the last page number can be located by scrolling to the end of the text of the article (usually prior to the start of the footnotes).
c) References for law review articles and cases must each be annotated (that is a brief summary or explanation (about 75 words each).
3) Cases.
a) Use this format: Party 1 v. Party 2, Volume # Reporter name Page # (Court, year)
b) Example: State of Missouri v. Wallace, 482 S.W.3rd 816 (Mo. Sup. Ct. 2013)
c) Example: Wallace v. Missouri, 649 U.S. 236 (2010).
d) Example: Students v. Wallace, __U.S.__, 23 S.Ct. 4596 (2014). (The spaces here indicate that in this recent case volume and page numbers in the U.S. Reports have not yet been assigned.)
