The Construction of Hybrid and Diaspora Indian Identities in Films

This research paper examines the difference in experience between Indian diaspora in the UK vs. diaspora in the US.

The requirement is to look at a couple of films for the two types & compare them. So 2 Indian UK diaspora films & 2 Indian US diaspora films.

Some examples of movies to use & compare are Gurinder Chadha�s Bhaji on the Beach (1993) and Bend It like Beckham (2002) as well as Damien O�Donnell�s East is East (1999) are representative of the South Asian diaspora and first/second generation born in the UK;

Mira Nair�s Mississippi Masala (1991) and Monsoon Wedding (2006) as illustrative of the same reality in the US context;

and Gurinder Chadha�s Bride and Prejudice (2004) and Mira Nair�s Monsoon Wedding (2001) as exemplary of how the South Asian diaspora in the UK and the US reciprocally connects back with the sub-continent.
