1 – “Reading: I, Rigoberta Menchú, Selected Chapters (attached)

Relate some paragraphs in the essay by answering this question
1 – How did the violent clashes between Neoliberal and Leftist affect the relationship between the citizens and the government between the 1960’s and the 1990s?
Thesis: The civil war resulted in significant modernization and democratization at a high cost in Guatemala.
2. Several paragraphs of analysis based on your own critical reading of the sources. Avoid excess description! Do not simply copy information from your sources! The challenge here is to relate the findings on from particular topic to our class readings on Latin American culture. The sources for your particular topic MUST INCLUDE at least one scholarly article or book in addition to whatever pieces you find on the Internet (Wikipedia is NOT an acceptable source for this paper!). In terms of syllabus readings, the articles from our two textbooks are a good place to begin, but any of the readings on the Blackboard page can also be used as references. In general, you are free to choose from any of our readings from the syllabus that you find relevant to your own research.
3. A concluding paragraph summing up your argument and the relevance of your particular topic to the broader field of Latin American Cultural Studies.
BE CAREFUL WHEN WRITING NOT TO PLAGIARIZE INFORMATION FROM BOOKS, ARTICLES, OR INTERNET SITES. When quoting a source word-for-word, or even when just restating or paraphasing an idea from the source, you must explicitly credit that source.
