As you know, the Great Lakes Seaway System serves a major role in the transport of raw materials between US ports, Canada and also provides a route for international vessels to bring cargo into the interior of North America from overseas destinations. Often the bulk, break bulk, and project cargo shipments are transported in large quantities and vessels are booked on a charter basis. There is no existing scheduled liner service on the Great Lakes for containerized freight or project cargo which prohibits shippers from using the system if they do not have enough freight to justify a charter.
