Guidelines for writing your Research Proposal
The final term paper is a research proposal in which you create a research design for a topic that is of interest to you. This proposal will follow the Scientific Method (module 2.2 p. 44) and you are asked to formulate a research question/problem or a hypothesis about your topic.
As you follow the stages of research design you will need to choose a theoretical perspective and a research method. As part of this proposal you are asked to explain why you decided to work with a particular theory. In other words, how the particular theoretical approach would contribute to your understanding of the topic. You will need to evaluate the different methods and consider the advantages and disadvantages of using each one in your particular case study.
Outline: Submit the topic and the question you wish to explore. Describe the issues, the theory and methods you will be using in your proposal. You need to include at least two references (NO Wikipedia please). At this point you do not need to include a review of the literature, only some sources that helped you think about the topic.
The Proposal: A research design which follows the stages of the Scientific Method. You are asked to discuss the theoretical perspective as it applies to your research topic. Include a literature review on the subject of your proposal. In addition, provide a discussion of the method used in the proposal, describe how you would proceed to conduct research using that particular method (include a set of questions for interviews; the setting for observations, etc.). Provide a discussion of the methods you did not use and the advantages/disadvantages of using them in your study. Conclude this proposal with your thoughts on the topic and the research process. You may also discuss the challenges in thinking/writing the proposal itself.
