After completion of high school, I attended Pennsylvania State University planning to major in biology. I was nervous and afraid of living away from home, which reflected in my academic performance. I left the school and came back to Virginia to attend a community college so that I can transfer to a more suitable institution. Being comfortable in my hometown, I did great at the college, maintaining an outstanding grade point average. Every day, I dreamed of living the college life like joining a sorority, cheering for college sports teams, doing club activities, and such more. I studied hard to make that dream come true. During the last semester at the college however, I learned that my parents were going to separate, and that the family business is going downhill because of it. My school performance was affected hard, which made my motivation and goal to dissipate. I had to take more semesters to fix my mistakes, and going to school became very discouraging. As time went on, I learned to keep my family problems from affecting my academics. I am not giving up hope and I am working hard again to pursue my dream of living that college life that will only come once in a lifetime.

University of Maryland was my first choice from the moment I stepped onto the beautiful campus. It is known to be the largest university in the state of Maryland and largest in the Washington metropolitan area. This large school provides tons of resources like its six libraries, and clubs and organizations for everyone. It is known for being a public ivy institution which guarantees excellent academics and great programs. It is also a very big research institution. Its proximity to Washington D.C. created strong research partnerships with federal agencies that creates numerous opportunities for the University, which would be a great advantage for students interested in research like myself. I also like the large diversity of the school, which will enable me to see and learn the different cultures. The athletics and school spirits are also great, which seem like a great part of the Maryland community. Overall, the school offers so much to the students; a great learning environment, academics, and an enjoyable college life that no student will ever forget.
