White Supremacy and Dominant Black Stereotypes

To what extent did the artist (writers, musicians, thinkers) of the Harlem Renaissance era challenge dominant ideas about race and racial advancement? What visions of freedom did they express their work?
Your essay should utilize assigned materials and film analyzed and discussed in class. Although you should incorporate a range of artists, thinkers, and musicians, your essay may focus on two or three.
The essays also will make reference to the debates among black middle class leaders at the turn-of-the-century (Booker T. Washington’s “Up From Slavery”, W.E.B. Du Bois’s “The Souls of Black Folk”, and Mary Church Terrell “First Presidential Address to the National Association of Colored Women,…”.
Consider the role of white supremacy and dominant black stereotypes.

As the direction says the essay should be written after reading all three books. None of outside sources can be used in this essay.
